Leave a Review Learn Dzongkha
Not recommended for serious learners
Highly Eurocentric. Many or even most languages in the world do not have “good morning” or “good evening”, but the developers of this app are blissfully unaware, and do not include the all purpose greeting you need. Also you’ll get ‘coke’ and ‘pizza’, but no specifically Bhutanese foods.
The section on numbers is useless, because Dzongkha has tones, but you will not be able to know them as the app automatically alternates between male and female voice - you need the stability of one speaker at s time.
Too much focus on commercial transactions and your personal needs, but hardly any emphasis on getting to know your fellow humans.
Tones are not marked in the Romanization at all, and the Dzongkha font is so small as to be painful.Show lessDeveloper Response
Thanks for your feedback. This Classic app is aimed at helping complete beginners get started in Dzongkha. It features around 250 useful words and phrases, all voiced by both male and female native speakers. It also includes the all-purpose greeting of ‘hello’ which native Dzongkha speakers borrow directly from the English word ‘hello’. The words for food and drink are not culturally specific to Bhutan and we apologise for the size of the Dzongkha font. Please speak to support@utalk.com and we will do what we can to make things right for you. Best wishes, SarahWorks well, but there are bugs. *Only 9 categories*
The design is great and it works well, but I didn’t know that I would only be getting nine categories. That should be stated explicitly.
Also, the games cycle through the same words from each section, leaving nearly half of the other words out which is disappointing.Developer Response
Thanks for your feedback. This app is aimed at complete beginners and contains around 250 words and phrases to give new learners an achievable goal. You are clearly a more advanced learner who needs more of a challenge so please speak to us at support@utalk.com and we’ll make things right for you. Our support guys would also love to investigate your tech issue. The app is designed to test you on the words you get wrong more often than the ones you get right to help you learn. But maybe there’s more to it than this… please help us find out by getting in touch. Best wishes, Sarah
