Ads

I am fine with a free game having ads. Before you start a round, or when you finish a round, all fair game, and I watch them as that’s the payment for playing. You want to have them run in the middle of a game though? Time to uninstall. It totally interrupts the flow. And it isn’t just one ad. Several. I just had to endure 4 ads IN the middle of a puzzle, and especially if you are going for a quick time, you need several seconds to reorient your brain to the puzzle at hand. I do not recommend this if you enjoy sudoku.

Response from developer

Hi! We sincerely regret to hear about your negative feedback with our application. We understand how annoying that is to have mid-game ads. Please note, there is an option to purchase an ad-free version in the Settings of the app, this is a one-time purchase and that will remove ads forever on your device. We will improve our performance in the future, and the ads will be removed from the middle of the game. Thanks for staying with us. 🙌

Too many ads

I understand that ads are an integral part of maintaining a free game, however I do not believe in ads that actively punish you for completing the core functions of the game. When an ad plays for getting answers correct and do not reward the player for watching them, it is pushing players away from your app because they are being punished for using it. I would suggest either introducing better rewards for ad watching so that removing mid game completion ads won’t subtract from revenue too much. The feel and functionality of this app is good but the frequency of ads is beginning to force me to look elsewhere for the same game that doesn’t break the flow of finding a series of connected answers due to an ad. Unfortunately disappointing

It’s more of a game than solving a puzzle

It’s not a bad Sudoku, it’s just not what I am looking for. You can play a “game” of Sudoku, choosing a difficulty level. Initially easy & medium are open, as you play more of a difficulty level, a new level will open. Or you can choose a daily challenge, I think that is somewhere between easy & medium.

If you are a beginner this probably a great app to start as it has all kinds of features to help you. Like highlighting a row, column & block, highlighting the number you just entered. Using notes to list the possible numbers for a square and auto removing them. You can also turn all that off - which I did. I found the highlighting rather annoying.

If you are just playing the “game” I’m assuming the goal is to score the highest points, the faster you solve the more points. I just want the challenge of solving the puzzle. I don’t care about scoring points. I didn’t like if screwed up the puzzle and wanted to restart I had to erase the numbers in each square individually, there was no reset puzzle option. I play The NY Times Sudoku and that is what I am looking for not a game option. I still have it 5 starts as it is an easy game, with different levels of play. It’s not the apps fault it is not what I want.

Excellent app

But why? Why? Are the evil levels soooo easy. They are all exactly the same, they all form the same pattern. The expert levels are much more varied and challenging. I don’t even bother playing the evil levels any more, too boring.
I can’t comment on the ads because l purchased the app, l always do if I like it. Life is too short to watch ads. I love the way you can just slide your finger around the screen to fill in numbers and the numbers are clear and bold.
I don’t like the fact that 99.9% of my ‘mistakes’ are simply because a finger hit a random number or because my tap didn’t switch modes from possible numbers to final numbers, but l guess they want you to make lots of mistakes if it forces you to watch more ads. I wish you had to double tap to confirm a final number which would eliminate all those ‘mistakes’.
Having said that l love the app and find it one of the most user friendly sudoku apps l have tried.
ETA. I have come back to playing this after a few months break as l got bored, the levels have changed, but it is still far too easy. I am no genius, but there is no challenge in any of the levels other than to beat your own time.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoy the app’s user-friendly design and features. We understand your concerns about the "evil" levels and accidental mistakes. Your suggestions for more variety and a double-tap confirmation are noted and appreciated. Thanks for your support. We’ll strive to improve future updates!

Used to be a great app but now it’s too cluttered and you can’t turn the scores off

This used to be a great app but now there’s a distracting animated score at the top of the screen that can’t be turned off. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling - I turn off scoring and animated scoring in settings but as soon as I play a game it comes back and vanished out of the options in settings. This has ruined the app for me, I don’t care about the score - it’s all about the time - and it’s so distracting it’s making it very hard to actually play the game any more. I paid to remove ads as I loved this app and wanted to support it but this has made it unplayable. Either it’s a bug or a terrible design decision. Either way I hope the developers comment here when it’s been changed because right now I won’t be able to use it any more as it’s made it unplayable for me. The last straw came when a score related animation came up DURING A GAME and totally distracted me, affecting the time it took. Seriously, not cool. Please get rid of this nonsense.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We understand that not all players may enjoy the changes. While the animations can be disabled in the settings, the score feature is not optional. We prioritize player feedback and continually test new ideas, bringing in only the most popular features. Your input is valuable to us, and we’ll keep it in mind as we work to improve. 💚

Ads ads ads ads and ads

When playing the game you used to get ads at the end of a game ads. They seem ads to have ramped things up ads recently ads. I understand you need ads to have ads to support the developer ads but things have gotten ads out of hand ads. Ads now things ads are ads insane ads with ads the number ads of ads ads. Also the developer is a liar they said the mid game ads would be removed and then they reneged and kept them in.

Love this app, great for learning

I’ve used a few different Sudoku apps, and this is the best so far! In other apps, it was hard to learn advanced techniques because there was rarely an opportunity to find an x wing or a swordfish. In this app, I find both relatively often, making it easier for me to learn how to spot them. I like that you can long press on a number and then simply tap any cell to fill it with that number, it makes things much easier and more enjoyable. The tournaments and things are a fun option, but not too pushy and obnoxious. The hints are really great for not just helping you win, but helping you understand how to play the game better! The only things I wish were better: Sometimes it’s hard for me to see which little numbers are bold. I wish instead of just turning bold, they turned a different color, too. Also wish that it wasn’t so easy to accidentally change a cell you have solved. It should just be permanent once you have solved it. I make enough mistakes by failing to click the notes button. I don’t need this additional way to make mistakes. No one needs to change a solved cell.

It used to be my go-to.

I love this game. Don’t get me wrong. It’s the best one IMO for sudoku. Fast, responsive, lightweight. Fun challenges. After putting the game away for a while, I came back to it recently to find that there’s more ads than ever before. I understand the need for revenue. But it used to have one ad after completing a board. I was fine with this - just one ad, watch it for the revenue, move on to the next board. Maybe I’d watch 3 or 4 ads because that’s how many boards I’d play in a sitting.

Now, depending on how slowly you play, you could get served up to 4, maybe 5 ads a board. I generally complete boards pretty quickly so I only get 2 or 3, but I am still just as jarred by an ad right after completing a square or filling out a number. It’s off-putting enough to make me play one board a sitting or just not to play at all. Maybe the devs are seeing better adrev this way, but they’ve lost my interest. I used to consider buying ad-free to support them, but after adding this mid-game gotcha style ad structure, I can’t say I support them anymore.

Either way you structure it devs, you’re getting the same revenue off me. I’m watching the same number of ads. But one way is more upsetting than the other.

Add a game mode

Can you add a killer sudoku game mode?

Used to love this app

I used to play this app religiously but in the few years I stopped playing they have added multiple ads at the beginning of a game, end of a game, and multiple times in the middle of games. I understand that using ads is the best way to make profit for the developers but they have stated they will remove the mid game ads over a year ago and still have no changed anything. There is the ad free version which costs $10, compared to other apps is an egregious mark up. I really love sudoku and i used to love this app but not when I am getting 4-6 ads every game I play. Just a bit abrasive in my opinion.
