Very good app
This is a great app. I highly recommend this for people who love birds or animals. As a bird lover, I never heard of any bird called “Huia bird”, so I thought this would be a nice made up story that would teach my 5 year old to care for birds. As soon as I go to the field guide I noticed it was a real, but extinct, bird. I have no complaints.

A sobering reminder
A sobering reminder to care for our birds. Reading the fact sheet at the end just made me so so sad, actually I cried, there was so much greed that drove a friendly, beautiful and curious bird to extinction. Humans and pest animals hunted these amazing creatures, and now there are none. People just cared for money first and foremost. It’s beautifully written and every kiwi NEEDS to read this. Now I’m going to go join a bird club and plant native trees in my garden!!! 11/10 xxxx

An interactive account of the now extinct huia birds
We found this story interesting with professional narration, and interactive elements on each page. We also learned the story of how huia birds became extinct...would have loved to see more facts or actual historical documents included in the app, but this is a good Segway into discussing the huia birds of New Zealand, and how industrialization and hunting can impact a species.

Te ataahua hoki!
All our tamariki at Puna Reo have loved this interactive pukapuka. Great to have this in te Reo Maori, lots of learning involved, beautiful illustration, sound and narration.
