App

Good app. Can make few improvements

Excellent if you know IPA

I've had this app for a number of years now and I absolutely love it.
The transcription used is IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) and are of British and American English. I love the fact it includes place and proper names.
If you are not familiar with IPA perhaps it's not for you but for linguists like myself this app is a treasure.
I really hope it will continue working with future ios updates as the app itself hasn't been updated for a long time now.
A must have if you are interested in speech and phonetics.

Full version still no good

I work in audio publications, so having a number of resources to check pronunciations is important. So I (or, tbh my company) paid for the full version of this app. I figured the bad reviews were just people who didn’t read the fine print regarding “in-app purchases.” Well, take it from me, the full version isn’t worth the money. If it was free, still not worth using. Why? All it gives are pronunciations, so you’ll find no guidance regarding words with more than one meaning and pronunciation. Even that would be fine, except for the fact that, in limited use, I’ve found at least 3 words for which it gives completely incorrect pronunciations. In an app that only gives pronunciations!

Excellent content, but UX can improve

The content of the dictionary is great, it's perfect. All words include UK and American pronunciation, with both the International Phonetic Alphabet transcription and audio recordings, and words include derived words and conjugations. Extremely useful.

The UX can be better, though. The app hasn't been updated to the latest iPhones, so it appears in compatibility mode with black bars top and bottom of the screen.

When you are inside the definition of a word, it requires two uncomfortable taps to start a new search:
1. tapping the back button in the top left corner, far away from the keyboard, and then
2. tapping the search clear button, which is also far away from the keyboard
It would be great if there was one button to start a new search from the word definition page.

Only free to view the word list, otherwise pay $14.99.

It’s free to download the app. It allows you to see the word list—and that’s it. All other functionality will set you back $14.99.

Not a full version

This is not clarified on the app name. You need to buy the full version for $14.99
