Description of MTC Rapier Ballistic

A Ballistic Calculator that connects to the Rapier Ballistic Laser rangefinder. The MTC Optics Rapier Ballistic Calculator App connects to the MTC Optics Laser rangefinder. Enter data to give bullet drop in Mils, MOA, mm and inches. Can be programmed to take into account wind and will show fall of shot on the on-screen reticle. Where the Rapier Ballistic calculator differs for every other calculator is that it can pair with the new MTC Ballistic laser rangefinder. The Rangefinder and the app will communicate via bluetooth and relay information back to the smartphone and onto the supplied bluetooth earpiece if required. MTC Rapier Ballistic Rangefinder will accurately measure ranges out to one kilometre with an accuracy of 1 metre, and yet is contained in a tiny package that contains a bluetooth module capable of connection to an external smartphone. With this feature enabled the MTC ballistic app can be used to instantly calculate points of impacts, holdover even windage! MTC BALLISTIC includes RF monocular with integrated Bluetooth communication module and ballistic app for mobile devices. When RF monocular is connected to smart phone with this ballistic app, it automatically transmits range and angle data to the mobile device, where POA correction is instantly calculated. POA correction (can be chosen between MILs / Clicks / MOA ) is made available to the operator in following ways: • on rangefinder screen • on smartphone screen • By voice (the voice command informs of the distance to the target and POA correction) (Bluetooth earphone is included with the rangefinder)

  • Needs work

I am not able to change the profile pre-settings from the default airgun model, so the app is essentially useless. Seems like a pretty huge glitch. The rangefinder itself is pretty good, but if the app doesn’t work then it’s not worth the price. I got it for a steal at a Whitetails banquet, otherwise I would be returning it.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your comments. We are aware of the problem. We have already fixed the problem. A new version is in review with Apple at the moment and should go public any day now.
  • Needs Improvement

The reticle view on the main page is pretty much useless. You might as well point your finger in the general direction and say shoot there.

Every other app generates a ballistic table. Why doesn’t MTC add one.

The last item that really bothers me is that the RF Units that you set for a particular rifle and scope combo are not remembered.

So if I am shooting a MIL setup and decide to shoot a different rifle/scope (MOA) combo. I have to remember to change combo and then the RF units to match what I am using.

This is another step that should not have to happen. Simply selecting the combo should include all the settings for it.

Finally, I wish MTC could make everything internal to the rangefinder. I mean it should be able to do all the calculations, have all the equations and computational power, and be able to display the results in the rangefinder window. It should also store the different setups and allow you to select the one you want to use right from the rangefinder. I should not have to use a finicky Bluetooth link that takes time to establish, eats battery life, and sometimes does not work. The only think an app would be helpful for is setting up the different combos and parameters.

Otherwise, it’s a descent product that is just begging for improvements.
