Description of Michigan MAGIC

Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) are among the most commonly used central venous catheter (CVC) in contemporary medical practice. The rise in popularity of PICCs reflects several advantages, including safe insertion and growing availability of vascular access nurses that offer convenient bedside insertion. However, PICCs are also associated with important complications, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI). Judicious use of PICCs to balance these risks against benefits is therefore necessary. Michigan MAGIC is designed to help guide users by providing recommendations on appropriate PICC use.

Reviews of Michigan MAGIC

  • Great app, one recommendation

    This is great. Very simple.

One addition would make it perfect. If the developer could add questions about whether a patient has renal disease, and distinguish between whether a tunneled CVC/nontunneled CVC (IJ access)vs PICC would be preferred.

I am an IR provider and constantly need to explain to medicine residents, and even attendings, the MAGIC guidelines, and what type of venous access they should be requesting - so this app would be very helpful for them.

Great app. I use this all the time for making decisions. Easy to use when on clinical duties.
