  • Fun but flawed

Puzzles are mostly fun when you get to them though a couple are kind of strange (“What colour do you see every day?” and “which of these two roads will not be busy if everyone takes this road?”). In general, the value isn’t really here for the money you pay, not least because you have to pay extra for the bonus materials. First, there is way too much time between puzzles and way too much dialogue. The description says it features a “modern” protagonist but she spends the first case ignoring it completely to get some food and go shopping. All in all, it feels like a Nickelodeon version of Layton and a pale comparison to The Curious Village

  • More than worth it!!

If you enjoy puzzles you’re in for a treat. My favorite Professor Layton game so far!
  • Lost All of My Saved Progress

I’ve lost all of my saved progress.
  • Great Game I loved it

My Second favourite Layton game I prefer Diabolical box more.
  • Sub-Par Puzzles (in my opinion)

I was thrilled to have had this game come out, and I don’t regret purchasing it. But I do wish the puzzles didn’t rely so heavily on word play. Seriously, so many were tricks as opposed to puzzles — felt like >20%. I want puzzles! Word play is okay for maybe <5% of puzzles in a Layton game. Still, just my opinion — and still, would buy the game again.

  • No sound

Can’t seem to get the app to have any sound. Sound works in all other apps on my tablet though, just not for this game...
  • Excellent. Please optimize for iPhone X!

It’s a really stellar game with tons of puzzles to solve, lots of fun. The game really needs iPhone X optimization as it feels boxed in and not modernized on this device. Please also give us the option to select the original Japanese voice cast in languages! It’d be the perfect time as Japan is airing the anime version of the game as we speak.

  • Great puzzle game with a lovely protagonist

I enjoy this game very much, there are interesting puzzles that seem so obvious but was like a bright red needle in a white colored haystack. You can solve a puzzle but scratch your head a bit too. The story is simple but enjoyable at the same time . Hopefully the next game they will put more story time with a bigger mystery then short stories but overall worth the time to solve puzzles

  • Name Puns

I have always loved Professor Layton and the idea that we would get a new story focusing on the professor’s daughter was tantalizing to say the least. However, this game has a few major snags that make playing the game unenjoyable for both nostalgia and casual players. The first is the story organization itself. I won’t go into detail about the the separate cases, how silly and trivial they seem to the overall plot (lots of people have already said so much better than I could), and how this game looks a lot like The Layton Brothers app (unaffiliated), but I have to talk about the puzzles. Naturally, they would not be up to the caliber of the previous games because we lost a dearly loved and highly-skilled puzzle writer. Having said that, some of the explanations for the puzzles (not the answers) don’t make any sense, and where the previous games had a few puzzles with trick answers, this game has far too many that you end up seconding guessing yourself.

But the most heinous and unforgiving crime of all is is the plethora of name puns in this game. You don’t think it will grate on you, but it does, and every time a new character is introduced you wonder what stupid name that somehow relates to their profession or place in the story they will be assigned. It’s unforgivable. I played this game for nostalgia, so I may be a jaded fan, but this game has gone far off of the path of what was good about the original. Genuine mystery that didn’t have to do with finding lost pets or giant clock hands made out of cake. I won’t get over Spector’s Flute and how silly that ending was, but this is ridiculous.

  • Bugs

The app it great, I bought it right when it came out and had a lot of fun with it. However when I tried to play it again after a break, the app would not open. It would close right away when I would try to close it. I updated and tried to turn off my iPad, etc and nothing. Sadly I did not back up the data and lost everything since I had to delete and reinstall the app. The story is interesting but I am definitely not redoing 20 hours of game from scratch. I wished the support was better as you have to pay for the game, if you buy it for that much then you should be able to play it and not get an app that crashes all the time.
