Reviews of Ctrl for iPad

  • Do the research. This is the best of its kind!

I have done a ton of research for software like this to run and program my VJ light show synced up through Ableton and Lightkey. If you want something free, ugly, and much more difficult to configure then check out TouchOSC. That app will do the job and work well but if you demand modern, polished and up-to-date user experiences then this is it. Setting up custom boards to control anything you want is a breeze in this app and as previously mentioned they’ve done a fantastic job on the user experience and the visual design. I’ve been using the free version for the past year to refine my approach to controlling my lights and now that I’m about to purchase this app I see that they have a new core edition which is much cheaper than the pro edition. Developers would you mind explaining in a little more detail what the difference in the versions is in the app description? Thanks for making a great app and also for implementing a price point that is more approachable for people like myself. For those reading this I highly recommend the app and I honestly don’t understand why it only has three stars as of the time of this writing. As I’ve said before I’ve scoured the App Store for every kind of app of this nature and if the description fits your bill then this is the app for you.

    Developer Response

Hi Pete we really appreciate your feedback, we’ll be sure to add more clarification surrounding what’s included in each their to the description. Alongside this we plan to add a comparison table inside the app itself and on our website as part of the next release.
  • A great / complete av tool

For what I do this is the only app that speaks all of the AV languages I need it to speak (midi, osc, http). On top of that it’s the only app that lets you send an osc command as a string instead of a float or integer. This means I can do a complete lighting and video install and then hand off one easy to use tool for a bar manager to use to make a complete show and be able to fire off bottle presos with out the aid of an av tech. This is especially useful right now while at techs aren’t allowed to run shows in Vegas. On top of that I’ve contacted the development team about adding features... and they did it...how often does that happen?

I think a lot of hobbyist users will find the price to be a bit high. But from an install / large system integration standpoint.. doing a custom coded system would cost a lot more
  • Should have zero stars

They want $149.99 for the full version. They are crazy, go get Lemur or TouchOSC for a cheaper app with more features. Who do they think would actually buy this????? You can almost buy a full functioning DAW like Logic or Reaper for that price.

    Developer Response

Hi Mike, Thanks for the feedback. We’ve primarily designed this app to create custom interfaces for installations and interfacing with larger control systems with user permissions accounts and the type of functionality required etc. For live music and sequencing, we completely agree that there are definitely apps better targeted at this exact functionality. Touch OSC / Lemur are definitely great examples for live production we wholeheartedly recommend them if this is the type of functionality you require. Ctrl can output midi + OSC, but it definitely isn’t a Lemur or Touch OSC competitor. In your opinion, what additional features would you like to see in the app in future, we’re really keen to hear your thoughts.
