  • Terrible app

App not well optimised for mobile and I can’t access the content after purchase. App needs to be redesigned.
  • Average app with [mostly] great content (partly out of date)

Update to review below: Offline access and download speed problems fixed after they directed me to delete and reinstall the app. But marking-up in the app (highlighting, scribbling notes and answers on review questions) still causes the app to crash incessantly. Lots of IREX content is out of date, particularly since Part 91 came in, but even before that it still mostly reads pre-GNSS days re ground-based navaids vs RNP/GNSS/RNAV. ….. Original review: Content is excellent as ATC have been doing for decades, my first books over 20 years ago were invaluable to learn and understand all theory. This app needs to be thrown in the bin though. Downloading books for offline use took many attempts, seems you maybe have to leave the app running on the screen for it to download, and the speed is stupidly slow for some reason, I’m guessing because ATC’s servers are archaic? Then using them offline… certainly doesn’t work as smoothly as something should if it’s on my iPad. Sometimes sits there with a blurry screen like it’s trying to download. And it regularly crashes particularly when marking up with apple pen. Try harder ATC, this app really is a let down on your outstanding reputation.

  • Nothing wrong with content but app is hopeless

First off, no issue with the content. However the app won’t load textbook (checked internet connection) and I can’t download the textbook for offline use. Hopefully can get the bugs sorted quickly so I can access the textbooks to keep studying!
  • Works great

Edit: I resolved all issues and the support staff were awesome helping me find a solution. I have left the original comments here for context but I’d have no problem recommending this app and their content (which was never in question; it’s awesome)

    Original comment
It took many attempts to get the sample book to download and once it did, I was getting a JS error and the book would not open.

I’ve been recommended the books by several people but it seems they don’t work digitally. Unfortunately I’ve tried many other options for aviation and many want to try and keep it in house, which brings these problems. Or good enough in 2020 where most have a tablet or phone.

There are many aviation books on Apple Books and Kindle but unfortunately they’re US based so many things aren’t relevant in Australia. Until an Australia aviation company finally lets us use these successful, efficient platforms, US versions will have to do. If they can do it successfully there, it can be done here also, but most seem intent on reinventing the wheel and grabbing your personal details, with poor results.

I have written to the company and they were courteous, responsive and friendly although believed they avoided platforms like Kindle as your can’t highlight texts or annotate text. They also mentioned not being able to update books if they use Apple Books and Kindle.

If I get any progress I will update the review but at this point I’ll probably just give up and stick to the simple options of buying an eBook through the normal channels. Quick and simple.

  • App was running fine but now lags

App was running fine but now takes a long time to load pages and downloads the textbooks very slowly.
I’ve checked my internet and have confirmed I’ve got a good connection.
Otherwise a great idea to get the texts easily accessible.
  • No offline viewing

This is a review of the app, not the theory content of the titles.

The title I’ve purchased and downloaded has a “offline” tag over the corner of the thumbnail, but when opened each page loads as if it’s downloading while being viewed. To confirm this I disabled the internet connection and found I couldn’t view the book at all. This wouldn’t be a problem except that there are plenty of places I take my iPad for work where I’d like to study, but can’t use the ATC textbook I’ve paid for because there’s no internet available and the supposedly downloaded text doesn’t open.
