Screening Time

Is your pediatric practice new to screening families for maternal depression, child development, and social determinants of health? Learn techniques to jump start conversations about these important topics. Screening Time: Tuning into the Needs of Families™ is a role-play simulation where you take the role of a pediatric healthcare professional and engage in a series of practice conversations with a virtual family at their child's 2-month, 24-month and 36-month well child visits. Through these scenarios, you will practice broaching the subject of a positive screening for: Maternal depression Developmental concerns Food insecurity Then you will follow through with an effective, family-centered discussion about how to address the issue that was raised. Using techniques drawn from Motivational Interviewing (MI), you will practice shared decision-making with families by asking open-ended questions, reflecting their concerns, showing empathy, and respectfully sharing information.
