Nothing but crashes.

Crashes all the time. Specifically when you need it. It is not reliable to take to a trail head.

Crucial Omissions

After copying a track as a course, editing it does not work as expected, because the course only has two points - start and end. As there currently is no way to add points to the course that then can be dragged, it is basically impossible to adjust the course. Long tapping on the course instead will destroy it and create a new course that is very different. Also I couldn’t find a way to hide selected saved items on the map.

Bloody brillliant

I’ve got an Enduro 2 watch, which I love, but which has a small screen and isn’t too easy to follow at small scale with a saved course in low vis. But all you do is download this app to your phone and your life is saved. Pinpointed me brilliantly to a pre-downloaded map whenever I wasn’t sure if I was astray.

Missing important features

I have a GPSMAP 67 with Topo Pro maps; however, the Explore app doesn’t currently (version 4.0.4) display the Topo Pro maps, even when paired. In comparison to the Topo Pro maps, the default maps provided with Explore are poor and are insufficient for course planning.

The other big gap is that the Explore app doesn’t currently allow waypoints to be entered using BNG coordinates; lat/long is not convenient in the UK.

Basecamp might be better, but it is not supported on iPad/iPhone. How many people take a laptop on outdoor trips?

Cycling and running routing only

We really need profiles for motorised vehicles. There are a lot of Zumo XT users who currently have no app support for route planning available from Garmin at all, and have never had any form of online or app based route planner from Garmin. The new version of Explore (4) seems to do way better route generation than earlier releases, but the cycling profiles will not allow routing on major roads even if the avoidances are disabled.

New update

The new update is great, makes it so much easier to navigate.

Don’t update,SCAM, if you have the old version hang on to it, now wanting to charge for off line map plotting, a feature that has been included with the device and was great especially in remote areas🤬 obviously not happy with the profit for the over priced smart watch.
Was going to upgrade my fenix 6 pro for the latest model but it won’t be happening now for sure👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Looks like I will be using OS maps from now on, much better and better value.

Response from developer

Per my previous reply - the free streaming and downloading of topographic, satellite, and USGS maps have all been restored, the app works the way it did prior to the 4.0 update in regard to downloading maps. You don't have to pay for these features... -Chip me.com2, the satellite and USGS maps that were previously available for streaming and download in the Explore app have been restored. The Outdoor Maps+ library is still a useful option in the United Kingdom to gain access to the Topo Pro maps and higher quality topographic data. There are also additional data layers like high detail contours and shaded relief, slope angle/aspect, and avalanche zones that we believe add value to the subscription. -Chip Noble, Product Manager, Garmin

Very useful app

I was hiking with no phone coverage and the app helped me to locate where I was and arrive to the hutt for the night
