*On the screen that (Re-)initializes the seating chart, there was a brief description on top of the screen, which, on iPhone-sized screens, was not entirely readable (not enough space was reserved). Now, it should be visible. While this app has been on iPad since about 2017, iPhone support is 'relatively new', I believe iPhone support started in mid-2023 (I worked on it in the summer), and judging as the majority of downloads are on iPhone over iPad in the last year, I'll need to focus more on testing for iPhone.

**MAJOR BUG FIX: New classes weren't working (there were no options to use), and this is now fixed. This was a recent bug (no one reported it; it was discovered in testing). Technical Details: I use three stack views to build the main menu (one horizontal, two vertical inside of the horizontal). I was 'hiding' the left side of the menu (one stackview) when it wasn't needed to collapse the space it took, but something changed, and now that was hiding all three stackviews, resulting in the menu disappearing. This used to work, and it's unclear when it stopped working. For now, I don't collapse it, which is a workaround. *For iPhone-sized screens, some seat graphics were adjusted slightly *Additional fixes for printing seating charts (I'm still looking into whether I can make it better or not, but I believe this is an improvement) *Small fix for display of Student Count on Add Students page.

Now when printing seating charts, names are vertically centered in the seats -- More work may be needed on improving the seating chart printing, but this is a step in the right direction.

Description of Student Centered Class Asst.

Use a seating chart to take attendance (including fire drill attendance) and track whether homework was handed in. There are also options to pick students (randomly and evenly in a day, bypassing absent students) and create random groups of students. Randomly generated groups can be hand-edited by dragging students' names onto the place in the target group you want it placed. Groups can be copied (for pasting elsewhere) or printed. Multiday attendance and homework summaries can be viewed or printed. Seating charts are initially created as rows and columns, but you can drag to reposition seats, reassign seats, and even randomly assign seats. Each option is under a separate menu item on the seating chart menu. Student names are either entered one at a time, or you can import a student list from a plain-text file (one name per line and nothing but the student's name on the line) or a CSV (Comma-Separated-Value file, as long as it has headers like "First Name" and "Last Name" to indicate where those are). Some student databases that schools use can export rosters to CSV, which, in some cases, may be directly importable. All information and settings in this class assistant app are stored on your device (but there is a backup option that will create a data file you can access from other apps or move off the device yourself). It does not require a working internet connection for daily usage or additional fees (no subscriptions).

Reviews of Student Centered Class Asst.

  • Works ok. Needs some fixes

Works ok. Attendance is misspelled in the attendance window. Can you make it so the students fill the entire screen rather than just crunched up at the top? It would also be nice to change the backgrounds to our own liking.

    Developer Response

Thank You For Your Review! Thanks for saying "Works ok," because my primary feedback is via reviews and it's good to hear it's "mostly working". I corrected the spelling where you noted it, and one additional place. I added custom background images for the seating chart screens. You'll now see an option to spread out seats (toggles on or off), also seats should otherwise be centered now. If you want to set other custom background images, update your review (or just e-mail me at the support e-mail) and if I see the comment, I will see what I can do.
  • Great app great customer service

I love this app for organizing all my classes and seating charts. You can move students to new seats with a touch of a button. Very user friendly for creating groups and for cold calling on students with the random student button.

The few things I didn’t like about the app I emailed to the designer and he fixed within a day! I’ve been looking for a good class management app for a while now and this one is really good.

    Developer Response

Thank You again for writing a review. (And also for your suggestions!)
  • Minor issues that become major

Overall I like this app it’s just rendered unusable due to formatting issues.

Pros: this is a fairly straightforward app and allows you to track attendance, create groups, randomly select names, and track basic homework data quickly. It is super simple to use.

    Cons:
    1. You cannot import a list of student names you must type each name individually!!!
    2. when typing student names in it is black text in a black field so you cannot see if you have made a mistake.
    3. there is no way to edit a student name in the same place where you enter them. you have to go back out into a different area and then you can edit the names if you mess up.
    4. when you create groups it is white text on a light/white background. this makes it impossible to read the names of most of the students in the groups.
    5. The app does not allow you to copy and paste/highlight names from the groups. So if you wanted to present the groups to the class you would have to retype everyone’s name whatever you can present them.
    6. I did not see a print function for the seating charts. This is necessary so that you have seating charts for substitutes.
7.It would be nice if you could choose your arrangement instead of just rose and columns.

    Developer Response

All your reported concerns have been addressed in free updates since you wrote your review: -Importing student lists (either from a .txt file - one name per line, or a .csv file with headers like first name, last name) is available -Color on Text entry field correction (which was due to not testing in dark mode, which is now turned off) -You can also edit students' names by tapping on their name from the add students screen now. -Copy Groups for Pasting in other apps is now available -Seating charts can be printed -Custom Seating Chart Arrangements are supported --- Thank You for your thorough feedback, it was very helpful.
