Highly recommend!
Stops nuisance email/sms spam
Does Exactly What I Want
There are two types of Text Messages that your iPhone can receive, traditional ‘SMS’ and Apple’s ‘iMessage’ style.
Here’s what the app actually DOES... It Filters SMS Messages (not iMessages).
First and most important you have to ENABLE it.
1. Install and launch ‘SMS SPAM Block
2. Go to Setting —> Messages
3. Scroll down to ‘Messages Filtering’ and select ‘Unknown & Spam’
There, at the top, you’ll see iOS’s built-in ‘iMESSAGE’ filtering. Decide if you want iOS to ‘Filter Unknown Senders’ or not. I enable this.
Below that, you’ll see ‘SMS FILTERING’
THAT is what this app is for! It’ll show a list of this and other apps that can do SMS Filtering.
4. Select this app
If you have more than one installed, sorry, iOS only allows you to pick one.
5. Go back to the app and select the ‘Blacklist’ tab.
There you can build a list of KEYWORDS that trigger message blocking OR you can enable ‘Block all messages from unknown senders’
That’s what I use.
Remember, this app only filters SMS messages. It’s in the name!
YOU’RE DONE!
Please note: When this app filters a message, you will see your ‘unread’ message count increase. This indicates you received something. When you open the messages app, you’ll see a new tab called ‘Unknown & Junk.’ That’s where filtered messages go. They get quietly dumped there with no sound or vibration.
Unfortunately they don’t get marked as read, but at least they don’t interrupt you.
Browse them if you wish or just swipe to delete.
Before you complain that the app ‘does nothing’ CHECK to make sure you’ve enabled it.
This has helped with SMS Neighborhood Group SPAM. That’s where some jerk sends a group SPAM to you and 20+ other people with your same area code and prefix, i.e. 702-588-xxxx.
There’ll be a flood of strangers all screaming to STOP, but at least for you the stranger messages will be contained in the ‘unknown’ section.
Now if Apple could block neighborhood SPAM, that’d be great!
Hope this review helps you!
