Why Safelight? A safelight is a commonly red colored bulb used in traditional darkroom printing processes. The use of red bulbs allows the photographer to see what they are doing while they are creating their prints, without fogging their paper, thus ruining their image. While we may not be operating in a darkroom anymore, Safelight aims to provide that same sense of illumination on the processes of printmaking and finishing. As we aim to shed light on the lab experience, we want every client to feel involved and confident in the process, whether they come to us to create a one-of-a-kind fine art print, create a photo book from their phone photos, or bring their film to be developed. Safelight is more than a drop off point, it is a place for your memories to be illuminated again, to take on new life in a way that involves you in the process.
