Description of Aviation Corrosion Challenge

An Official US Navy mobile application, produced by the Navy PMW 240 Program. The Aviation Corrosion Challenge application uses a gaming scenario with score-based challenges to help Sailors and other users identify the types, forms, and characteristics of aircraft corrosion. Based on NAVAIR Instruction 01-1A-509 1-4, the app provides visual identification of corrosion, information on methods for removing and treating corrosion, and information on the materials used in corrosion prevention. Using photographs and texts, the game randomly generates elements associated with corrosion control, including types of corrosion, corrosion effects on alloys, aircraft cleaning, corrosion preventative compounds, and sealants. During the game, the user must answer multiple questions within a set amount of time. Selecting the correct answer before the timer runs out awards the user bonus points. To enhance learning, the game allows a review of questions at the end of each challenge. The app also includes an achievement section that unlocks trophies when various levels of points are reached or the user completes specific challenges. The Aviation Corrosion Challenge app is comprehensive, easy to use and offers public content only -- no authentication/authorization required. Download yours today!

Reviews of Aviation Corrosion Challenge

  • Good idea, and needs more work

This was a great concept. Some of the images are not of the best quality. It makes it difficult to identify the correct kind of corrosion.

I also think that there maybe a glitch in the system. This is frustrating. I know that I have completed the challenges, however the app does not recognize that fact.

Is there more than one level? I hope so, corrosion is a huge subject.

In short, this could be a great training aid. With a few more corrections, I would recommend this to a junior sailor.
  • Great idea, but...

Fantastic idea to get sailors interested and informed about corrosion. Not the best execution. The pictures are horrible! You can’t tell what’s going on in the pictures because they are such low quality. I can’t recommend this to my sailors yet, as all it does is frustrate at the moment. Gets three stars because there are questions that can be answered without images, so at least there is something to work with.

Please continue to develop this app! Please take some hi-res images and use them!
