A State Machine
At first my winning percentage was rather low on the Normal level, worse on the Medium level and I was only able to draw on the Hard level. Then I started to observe how the computer plays. So, I developed algorithms for Normal, Medium and Hard. If I follow the sequence of moves, by memory, I can win every time. 12 moves for Normal 13 moves for Medium 19 moves for Hard. I might be able to shorten these algorithms even further. My question is, I thought this was an AI game? How can I win all the time with these algorithms? Easy is so easy, it doesn’t need an algorithm. These algorithms only work when I make the first move. I would probably have to develop new algorithms if the computer went first. Nice graphics.Show lessDeveloper Response
Thank you for your detailed review! It’s impressive that you’ve developed algorithms to consistently win at different difficulty levels. While the AI is designed to provide a challenge, your experience shows that there’s room for improvement in making it more adaptive. If you’re open to it, I’d love for you to share the algorithms with me by emailing them to contact@eivaagames.com. I’m glad you’re enjoying the graphics, and thanks for sharing your thoughts!Truly excellent app
Brilliantly written application, and is probably a model for ‘thinking machine’ theory. If I had any issue, it’s the magnitude of the difference in difficulty between easy and normal mode. In easy mode, the CPU only thinks of the next move and will never hesitate to take a piece, even if it is ultimately sacrificing a queen to take a pawn. In normal mode it thinks mathematically about every move, and the difference between normal and every level after that is how far in advance it ‘does the math’. In easy mode you can win in a few seconds. In normal mode that can take an hour or two as it suddenly get smart. What this means is this app can challenge virtually anyone with any skill level. As a programmer, I would absolutely love to get a glimpse of the programming of this app as it is the perfect app; slick, intuitive, seemingly bug free, and never fails to challenge and entertain.Show lessComputer tries to stall until you make a mistake
Really enjoyed this app. Easy mode is silly but normal gives me a challenge at my play level. The issue I have which made me delete the app is that in some games, if you have the upper hand and the computer is forced to make a bad move, it will sit there and move one piece back and forth and basically force YOU to make the bad move. Otherwise you stalemate out after the rule of three moves. It’s silly because it forces me to play from behind (which might be good for training) but also it’s very difficult to win handedly without getting down to a few pieces each. I wish they could fix this because it’s annoying that the computer wusses out and basically cheats to win.Show less
