Reviews of FC SmartHome

  • Don’t even bother

Don’t waste your time with the app, it’s completely useless. Never made it past the whole sign up and link because it wouldn’t connect to Wi-Fi. Did it 3 times and said screw it. Just read the directions that come with your stuff on setting up and save the time screwing around with the app. After all, it is Chinese 🤷🏽‍♂️
  • Requires update

    1. Has issues connecting smart door-locks to app.
    2. Cannot properly connect in 5g.
    3. Does not send notifications on home-screen.
    4. Does not support unlock card on wallet in iOS.
    5. Interface is slow and not as intuitive in some areas.
  • Not Bad (Just Needs a Few Updates)

I initially reported that this app wasn’t able to configure the WiFi connection on the device. Turns out it was because my router doesn’t support 2.4ghz connections, which is the only band that the device supports. It would be nice if they updated the internal WiFi adapter to support 5ghz since that is the current standard, but I also realize that doing so would require me to replace the device. To get around this I setup another router in bridge mode and used a different SSID… thankfully, I recently upgraded our home WiFi system so I had the older router, which supports 2.4gjz, laying around!

Hardware aside, there are a couple of things about the app that I would like to point out. Some of these things are just nice-to-haves, others more usability-oriented. It would be great if they were addressed nonetheless:

    ———————

    1. The UI has Chinese in some areas (e.g., one of the “Next” buttons in the initial setup is in Chinese). I realize this is a native Chinese app but if you are selling your devices in English-speaking regions it should display English (and/or any other language that is currently supported). This was probably just a developer oversight in the latest release.

    2. Naming conventions are a bit unusual (or it might just be a lost-in-translation thing). Not a major issue but a couple of things that came up initially confused me. Updating the names would make the whole experience a bit more intuitive.

    3. Why do I need to wake up the device by holding the 5 key down to use the remote unlock feature from my phone? I feel like that defeats the purpose of having the remote unlock feature (if I have to hit buttons on the device to wake it up I’ll just enter my password or use my fingerprint).

    4. In the Coercion setup the app currently limits you to a total of 3 device/user pairs for sending notifications (via SMS/Email). Can this limit be removed? I have additional family members that I would like to add but I don’t want to add them until I can be notified when they access the device. Additionally, I would like to set up some of these notifications to go to my wife. This means I would need to create a minimum of 10-11 device/user pairs.

    ———————

I will try to come back and update my review in a few months after the device and app have been used for a while. It appears to be very well-built so I don’t anticipate any issues with the hardware. And while I hit a couple of bumps using the app during the initial setup (specifically in the Coercion configuration), I will admit that I’ve managed to get everything initialized and it is now ready to be used.

One thing I really like about this app is that [according to the app details in the App Store listing] the developer does not collect any personal data from the app.
