Description of Space Photos

Space Photos is a simple way to learn more about the universe we live in. Discover beautiful images and fascinating facts about outer space! The photos and commentary are provided by NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day service. You can view, share, and mark the best of them as your favorites. And when you feel extra curious, the app lets you select a day in the past, dating back as far as 1995. Go ahead and check out the photo published on your birthdate! New photos are shared daily (around midnight ET), and you can receive notifications as soon as that happens—so you don’t miss anything. If you like Space Photos, please give it five stars on the App Store! And if you notice something broken, let me know at apps@ym.dev.

Love The Skies

I really like the photos & info you provide & look forward to many more thank youI!
I have recently noticed that there have been no photos lately??

Response from developer

Hi there! Thank you for your review! New photos are added daily, just as before. However, if you only use the widget and never open the app, the widget might’ve stopped working recently. I decided to focus on the core app experience and deprecate the widget to emphasize the educational aspect, not just nice pictures. The first fruits of this shift in focus are already here: v6.27 ships with “AI follow-ups” which add another layer of educational value to the photos. This feature is gradually rolling out to all users, and I’d love to get your feedback once you’ve tried it! The widget may return in the future, but for now I just don’t have the resources to support it. I apologize for that—working as a solo developer comes with hard choices sometimes.

Not giving me a daily picture, just past images

Why did the pictures stop?

Response from developer

Hi! I just checked the app and its back-end service, and both seem to work just fine: The app showed a picture for every day I requested. If you rarely open the app and only use the home-screen widget, please note that iOS may “freeze” apps’ widgets (so they show outdated content) in some cases: if you’re low on battery, if you don’t open the app for too long, etc. The widget should refresh as soon as you open the app. Please email me at apps@ym.dev if it’s still not working, and I’ll look into it.
