Could Be a Great Gin App… But

I’ve now read several reviews, a lot of the same. With playing Gin it’s all about the shuffle and dealing. I have played this app for about two months now and have moved up and up the levels. I have amounted up to 400,000 coins without paying a single cent. The problem with this app are the deals. It’s almost impossible playing gin to win after two pulls. Not impossible, but percentages are extremely high. This app it happens at least ten times a week, while working on reaching higher levels. I have two different iPhones and have this app installed on both, same instance's with shuffling and dealing on both phones. Hmmm … Very interesting Mr. Powers. This could be a GREAT APP, but as for all fun apps, good players are watched by wins and algorithms … I do like this app a lot and love playing mind games with all the players that I play, but I won’t pay the money this gin app asks you for… I’m sure that the response from the MIT app inventors will be the same as the ones I have read.

Cheers!!

Response from developer

Thank you for the great review - please let us know how we can improve even further!

If you don’t FB connect you can’t win

Edit:
Wilst the developer response is likely just a lie, if we assume it to be true, then the problem with this game is it is riddled with exploits which allow dedicated players to manipulate the deck.

Original:
Literally every time my opponent has a real photo rather than an in-game graphic, meaning they opted for FB connect, I literally can’t win a single hand, let alone a game. And not only this, I lose the hands in less than a half dozen turns. Consistently. Whereas against anyone else, I win more than I lose & the hands take at least a dozen turns, as a game of gin actually should most of the time. Also, like so many card games, their random number generator is clearly not programmed correctly because the cards always come out in clumps - all the sixes, all the kings, whatever. This is an issue with pretty much all gin apps & other card apps for some reason.

Response from developer

Whilst connecting to Facebook is possible, this has absolutely no influence on the card dealing and all players are dealt to equally. The card dealing system operates entirely independently from all player factors such as purchase history, Facebook connection and chip balance and we never manipulate the outcome of a game.

Don’t waste your time

Don’t play that game, waste of time, you’r gona have good cards the first week and after lost every time.

Love that it is not cartoonish and real gin rummy

I love this app and hate it at the same time. It’s truly Las Vegas. First they reduced payouts and reduced free chips. Second, the app purposely makes you lose. I recently tracked my gaming after buying $40 worth of gems/chips. I am a good gin player and in real life, I usually win. On this app, the house stacks it against you, especially if you buy chips. They want you to lose to buy more. In 20 consecutive rounds, I wasn’t given one single meld. Meanwhile, my opponents went down with gin after one or two cards selected. This is intentional to make me lose. If i don’t play for a few days, the game gives me a win, followed by 3-4 losses. My winning percentage says 51%, but that is inaccurate. They set you up to win one, lose 4 or more. If you bet a lot of chips, you’re doomed to lose them. If this app doesn’t improve soon, I’m deleting it for good and looking for another.
Make it fair please! I have sat next to my son playing with him and seeing his hands and it’s laughable. He never plays and isn’t a good gin player and his hands are guaranteed to give him a big gin or wipe me out immediately. I mean every single card he draws does into his hand. This isn’t luck. It’s computer generated intentional winning to make a loyal player lose.

Response from developer

Dear Dee jason, we're sorry to hear you're not convinced of our app's fairness. However, we don't manipulate the deck to favor certain players as this is unethical and counterproductive as players would be unlikely to want to keep playing, let alone make a purchase. As you always play real opponents, any run of bad luck you have benefits them and not us.

Rigged

This game rigged for you to spend money. Deleting

Response from developer

Dear Guest, thank you for your review. We will pass your feedback on to our team. We recommend trying the Classic and Oklahoma variations with more rounds for a longer game.

Highly questionable card distribution

5 games in a row, my opponent knocks or gins in 2 turns, while I have no matches. They instantly win the game.
They will say its not rigged but after 5 in a row, there is no possible way there isn't something wrong with the game.

Fun but not without issues

A really fun game to play but the dealing and drawing of cards is absolutely not random as the developer’s comments suggest. Which is infuriating when you’re on the wrong side of it as it must be for opponents when you’re able to Gin 4x in a row in a match before we’re even down to 20 cards left in the pack.

It’s easily the best presented Gin game on iOS and really fun to play as long as you accept that you’ll be on both the ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ side of some ridiculously one sided games.

Love this

I’m really enjoying this game. However suddenly it’s started to close down mid game ,it just closes down no loss of connection very annoying

Once you spend $$

Once you spend $ on this scam you can’t win a game. I’m done with this one! Ripoff!

Updates and dashboard

Pros: looks lovely, easy to navigate, not a harsh, tacky cartoon vibe that so many other games have.

Cons: with the newest update this week (nov 2023), they increased the buy in for games and reduced the payout. This is a huge blow to users considering everyone has commented on the need for more fair pay outs. This was a poor move by developers. In addition, they reduced the free chip amount. Two days ago I got 860 free chips every 4 hours- tonight it’s 500. My rank/level has not changed. Developers, do you honestly think we wouldn’t notice? I’ve never reviewed an app before but this annoyed me enough to pop over hear and call it out. You have the ability to improve this while still making money from paid features and ads, so please do it.

Functionality: please update the user dashboard when we are in a game. As I play, I want to be able to view my chips, my xp level, and which game mode and table I’m in. It’s frustrating to not have easy access to that while playing, and only be able to view that in between sessions. You could add that dashboard to the header of the table while we’re in game mode. (Similar to the Rummikub game).
