  • Log weights not accurate

Compared to isa log weight charts a 1’ long 18” diameter log is off by about 20lbs in most species.
  • Overweight estimates…by a lot.

Compared identical log dimensions to multiple websites. Northern red oak for example was almost 1,000 lbs over weight. Eastern white pine over 300 lbs. Not sure how they figure it out, but I will not be using it.
  • Incomplete

Logs aren’t perfect cylinders, and this app makes that assumption. I typically will use the log weight calculator on Woodweb, and with it, you enter both the small and large end diameters, along with length. With this app, it only asks for a single diameter.

Also, the scrollers for diameter and length are poorly designed. It’s takes quite a few swipes to scroll to 21’, when you have to do it 1” at a time.

  • Almost perfect.

Simple and good. Nothing fancy or useless
Could use more species, though. Mulberry is not on the list and there is lots of that around here.
Would be nice to be able to see the species list by weight.
  • Does exactly what it says

Nice clean interface. Easy to use.

Hardest part is correctly measuring the diameter of the log halfway between its ends.

Next challenge is determining if the log is heavier or lighter than a “standard” green log of the selected species.

But those are judgement items that no app is likely to define for you.

  • Excellent tool for arborists

If you rig wood and you want to become more familiar with the weight of different species of trees this app will help. You won’t be an overnight success but you’ll have one more tool to help in situations you’re unsure of.
  • Log weight pro

Not enough information on what measurement to use for size of log.
Do you use small end diameter or butt end? The difference is almost a factor of 3x
