The ads are the worst to deal with I’ve ever seen.

I saw this app recommended by a photographer. I tried it, and I have never seen such obnoxious and persistent ads, none of which pertain to me. They fill the whole screen and play for a long time. Even when they stop running most of the time they don’t close and it is hard to find a way to get them off the screen and see the app. If they have a visible x on screen when I press it the App Store opens to the advertised app. From what I can see of the app you put a lot of work into it and the graphics are great. However, the ads seem designed to force you to buy a subscription in order to use it and not be frustrated. This is so coercive I will not buy it. I set up the alerts. I will read them on my watch but I will not pay for this product just because you made it obnoxious in the free version. I saw a post that said you have no control over the ads. Yet every other app I use in the free version has tolerable levels of advertising material.

Response from developer

I know nobody likes ads but we have to pay the bills, so ads are a necessary evil to keep this free and deliver you free alerts and free data. Our subscriptions are very reasonable priced. The frequency of our full screen ads is pretty low if you don’t use the refresh button (all data on all pages is updated automatically so there’s no need to tap refresh, it’s only there if you see that data got stuck but that’s rarely the case)

Ruined by the ads

Content is great but the ads are too disruptive. Noisy, last much longer than 5 seconds and no way to cancel them before they finish. Is it worth $12 a year? I don’t know. I’m off before I can find out.

Response from developer

We provide ad space for advertisers, they decide the length of the ad and if they can be skipped or not. Ads are needed to keep it free, if you don’t like it you can remove them for a very reasonable price. You can also go for one month (a dollar) subscription and upgrade later or cancel after.

The very best

I am a ham radio operator I have monitored space weather since early 1970’s. I have another app that monitors this but in terms of information Space Weather Live absolutely rules. The screen on my iPad is informative and easy to understand. This app is a no brainer for anyone interested in what the sun is doing.

Confused

This app seems cool but I don’t see any setting option to input where my location is? I also went into the “Manage Push Alerts” settings and the page is completely empty…

Response from developer

For privacy reasons we don’t track your location. Manage push notifications isn’t empty on our test devices.

Annoying Ads & Push Alerts

I’ve had this app less than 24 hours and am completely annoyed by not only the number of ads, but also the push alerts.

Response from developer

Push notifications can be configured for each type to several thresholds and you can disable all types as well. The ads are a necessary evil to be able to bring a free to use app. If you don’t like ads you can get rid of them completely for a very reasonable price.

What this app and iOS need

Is/Are adjustable by circumference sound alerts:
I.e.
NEWS: a story A/P would call a flash - in a newsroom 10 bells. Your Head of State (in the US) Shot Appears severe/assassination Nuclear attack uktra- severe weather above Your head - LOUD sound and/ir vibe of your choice; For this app - grab your camera it’s Aurora time!l Now! Some loud sound /vibe mandatory .
BULLETIN - not end of world but what old wire service Teletypes would ring 6-9 bells for. On this app, get ready, aurora in 5 hours; Shots fired but miss, shooter dead. Biden pulls out of race - ME cease fire signed …- your choice, sound /vibe, lower volume , non mandatory sound, mandatory vibe from strong->medium at least.
URGENT - 1-5 bells in old days Personalized response, at least a low vibe and banner One system variant by user, who chooses response.
REGULAR STORY OF INDIVIDUAL USER - same as now.
If one of 2 major candidates is elected - the one I consider dangerous - I want to boost level of response 3 degrees stronger . But my “dangerous candidate “ isn’t yours. So nothing mandatory on politics except LINCOLN SHOT AT FORD’s Theater event. Yes, I know there weren’t cellphones in those days.

Stuck in Ads

I don’t have a big problem with ads if I don’t want to pay for ad-free, but when there’s no way to get back to the actual app, out of the ad, then it’s just a waste of space on my screen

Response from developer

Most ads are skippable but we don’t have control over that, it’s the advertiser that chooses if they are skippable. We only provide adspace for advertisers.

🕉️ SUPERB App - ingenious!!!

🖖
We should be paying at least £100 per month, for this material.
Designed for those without a proper education in Solar Space Sciences.

Wonderful!
but
Sure hope nobody finds out about NOAA and other Sol resources available online.

Response from developer

Not greedy, we’re still a non profit organisation without funding. Ads are needed to pay the bills to keep it al running. App has always been free to use but comes with ads. Don’t want ads? You can remove them for a very reasonable price with an in-app subscription.

Ads are destroying the app

This is my favorite space weather app but the recent update made to how the ads display has completely destroyed it. Now, when trying to navigate to a different page, an ad covers the entire screen and cannot be exited. One is forced to watch an ad of a minute or longer just to navigate to a new screen. I am keeping the app installed for the alerts but I've had to shift back to the browser-based site to use it. The browser version has ads as well but they are placed in a way that makes it still possible to navigate the site. I understand that ads are necessary. I hope this app developer can come up with a solution that accommodates the ads while still allowing users to move around the site.

Response from developer

Solution is to remove ads with an in-app subscription at a very reasonable price. That way you also support our project. Ads are needed to generate revenue to keep paying all the bills, our app might be free for you to use, but it isn’t free for us!

10/10 best Aurora app

I have sworn by this app since it’s been out! The best and most informative with straight forward information there is! I’ve learned everything I know from this app and it has helped me see the aurora too many times to count!
