The Atlantic/HuffPo meets swipe right to learn more education app
The app is very aesthetically pleasing, and it lures you in with the premise of being a more calm place to get a real understanding of the issues. There are plenty of charts and graphs, and lots of sources. Where does it go wrong? Well, it becomes pretty obvious within a few minutes that what you’re reading is merely advocacy dresses in a clean, inoffensive veneer purporting to be a news app. Take the first two issues it presents you with regarding immigration and population demographics of America. It presents facts, but then it takes it several steps further and enters into advocacy.
The app using sources such as the SPLC to define hate groups in America, which is practically every right leaning religious organization according to the SPLC.
This app has potential, if they would simply provide two genuine sides of an argument. I don’t get the sense that this is the mission of this app. It’s frustrating because you can tell that the creators of the content can see that these issues are nuanced, but they, quite predictably, reach the exact conclusion you would suspect a publication to reach if they have a particular outcome they favor.
The immigration debate is not a debate between 1) immigration is a net good and it’s the best thing since sliced break AND 2) immigrants are evil and we need to condemn them to the abyss. This app would have you believe this is the debate though.
TLDR: This app is The Atlantic/HuffPo meets with a “swipe right” to learn more education app. It gets you to “challenge” your preconceived notions by preprogramming in left-leaning sourced “answers.” I’ll raise the rating if I see an honest attempt to show both sides of issues while understanding the nuances of each position.

Finally!
Lately it’s been hard to read the news everyday without cringing and turning away. Sift gives me the opportunity to read about important/hard topics in a meaningful and well informed way. I feel empowered to have a voice in conversations I might normally avoid.
Engaging and informative!
Sift is a fun way to become more informed with social topics. Super excited to have found this app.
