UPDATE: as the game progresses, the instructions get a bit more tolerable, so I’m amending that part of the review.
However, I still have problems with the controls. They’re just so awkward and small; so easy to miss while you’re driving.
I love the fundamentals of this game. The projects, the equipment, the finance, all of it is cool. The execution is a little awkward. Vehicle turning control is too small and so it’s difficult to keep vehicles under control. The instructions are also a bit too rigid. “Bring X vehicle to gravel pit. Fill it with gravel. Go to the site” and if you do any of those things out of order, you’re stuck until you follow it. That’s unnecessary. Just say “bring a load of gravel” for example and stop breaking it down like that. Also, stop requiring certain vehicles for certain tasks if another will do. For example, I was instructed to bring a backhoe for a job that I wanted to do with a crane, and couldn’t proceed until I brought the backhoe. Simply, the job instructions are inflexible and kind of a burden. Fix that and the vehicle controls and this game gets five stars from me.
