  • Flawed

The app is set up really nice. It helped me improve a bit in my punjabi. However it has several flaws. Under possessive pronouns if you enter the correct answer for “near their town” it reads it as incorrect and won’t let you move forward. I was going to pay for the full subscription of this app until I noticed this.
  • So far so good..except...

There seems to be a problem with the Gurmukhi possessive course part. The sentence “My house is near (the) station” it always says is wrong even though is the same as the “correct answer”. I would also like a way to contact Fluently directly. Like an email or something. Thanks.

UPDATE: This course still seems to have this error along with other ones. How can I contact someone to let them know?
  • Subscribed, but...

I’m subscribed and have learned some interesting things about how to form sentences in Punjabi, but I keep getting kicked off my own profile and it says I’m not subscribed even though I am. I’ve had to delete and reinstall the app multiple times because of this.
  • Great but new Gurmukhi section was buggy

This is actually a really good app for learning punjabi (more like a Duolingo or other course than just memorizing vocabulary.) The benefits of this application are actually not easy to recognize when beginning; now that I have learned more, I have seen the following extra special portions that make this application on par with a proper course from a university:

    * proper instruction on the declensions (matching nouns, pronouns and verbs similarly to Latin) - this is very relevant for understanding meaning particularly and helping to learn to read Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

    * the videos are important- I didn’t realize until later in the course that this is an important comprehension piece of the course. This helps simulate a little bit of conversational comprehension.

    * the sections can be reset and redone if I need more practice.

    * this program teaches sentence structure and grammar better than any other punjabi software program. I want to formulate my own sentences and also be able to learn vocabulary and punjabi from context as I get better; this program gives me the tools (grammar, sentence structure and the declensions) to do that.

    * the tutoring which is so important but I haven’t tried yet

The Gurmukhi section had a bug with the correct answer not being recognized; I believe this is fixed but I haven’t updated the software yet.

While this application isn’t perfect, it is functional. My one frustration is the Gurmukhi works more on pronunciation for vocabulary instead of going directly from English to Gurmukhi or vice-versa like the grammar section. I have been trying to skip the English transliteration and instead try to develop a natural fluency.

Lastly, I only know if the Latin declensions because my son studied Latin not becauSe I have...

    Great Job! Thank you!
  • Neat App, Kind of Slow

I recently downloaded this app because I want to be able to better communicate with my in-laws. The format overall is pretty nice, but the Prezi-style videos run slow, along with the read aloud buttons.

I was a little confused why the first portion with pronouns had a grammar section where the user builds sentences when literally nothing beyond pronouns had been taught. Hopefully there is a section that goes over question words (who, what, when, where, why), because that would be helpful for a learner.

Because options to learn Punjabi are so limited, I think I’m going to subscribe and complete the other modules, although it is pricey as others have stated. The app has a lot of potential. It’s probably the best Punjabi language learning app I have come across. I will update this review once I get through some of the paid modules.
  • Punjabi learning accessible

First of all, I would like to thank you for making Punjabi language learning more accessible for those who live abroad.

It is no secret that finding resources for Punjabi is extremely difficult online. Other languages for example Hindi have many options available while those who want to learn. Punjabi on the other hand still has a long way to go, but this just another step in the right direction.

I would like to agree with others concerns and say this app is expensive. Therefore, I cannot use it. But I love the idea behind the app and if I have some income left over to spare will consider purchasing a few more lessons.
  • Steep Pricing

This app is an absolutely amazing idea and is much needed for the preservation of Punjabi within first and second generation punjabis living abroad. However, the subscription pricing is much too expensive and those that need this app the most are often the ones without much money of their own (Punjabi youth specifically). I will continue to support such great ideas and hope pricing models are adjusted.

Hi Mohit, Thank you for your review and we're glad you like the app! It took over a year to build and we have lots of new features planned, we also aim to release new content every week. In order to be sustainable and market/reach the most amount of people possible we need to charge some money - after Apple's 30% cut & taxes this is about the best we can do at the moment! But we hope to cut prices in the future where possible! Thank you for your support in the mean while. Regards, Fluently Team
  • Pretty Awesome

I think it’s cute that you answer “Hanji” when a prompt appears, but never mind that. This app is the closest to Duolingo for Punjabi you can probably get. I haven’t gotten very far into the lessons, but the foundational basics are great. Hoping for Gurmukhi alphabet lessons like dreaded Sunday school lol

Edit: you have to pay after 4 short lessons. Changed rating to 2 stars
