Description of Little Orpheus

A game by The Chinese Room The year is 1962 and NASA are trying to put a man on the moon. In a remote corner of Siberia, a Soviet cosmonaut is heading in the other direction. Comrade Ivan Ivanovich is dropped into an extinct volcano in his exploration capsule, Little Orpheus, to explore the center of the earth. He promptly vanishes. Three years later he emerges claiming to have saved the world. He has also lost the atomic bomb powering the Little Orpheus. He is taken to a top secret bunker deep below the Ural mountains to be debriefed by the fearsome General Yurkovoi, a man so frightening even Stalin won’t buy him a drink. The General rolls up his sleeves, fixes Ivan with a steely glare and say “So... where have you been comrade? And where is my bomb?” And Ivan looks him right back in the eye and says “Well General, you might not believe what happened to me, but I’ll do my best. Because it happened like this...” Join our bold yet hapless hero as he explores lost civilizations, undersea kingdoms, prehistoric jungles and lands beyond imagination. Gasp as he battles the subhuman tribe of the Menkv and escapes the clutches of dreadful monsters! Cheer as he triumphs over impossible odds and brings socialism to the subterranean worlds! Little Orpheus is a technicolor side-scrolling adventure game inspired by classic movies like Flash Gordon, Sinbad and The Land that Time Forgot. Delivered in eight bite-size, commute-friendly episodes, Little Orpheus is simple enough for casual players but rich enough for seasoned adventure fans. If you’re a fan of old school family blockbusters, want a rollercoaster story that’ll take you to the Earth’s core and beyond, or are just in some need of ideologically correct entertainment, join the most unlikely hero to hit Apple Arcade on an adventure beyond belief. • Great Game

This is an amazing video game, definitely my favorite video game I have ever played. One small thing didn’t work for me though. In episode 2, kind of close to the end of this episode i think, there was a part where I had to push a metal thing so I could use it to jump onto a ledge. I tried the interact control (tap and click) but it wouldn’t work. I thought maybe that wasn’t part of the puzzle so I watched a walkthrough video to be sure. The person did exactly everything I had done up until that point but then they were able to move the thing, even though I wasn’t, and I was using the right control. I don’t know if this is just a personalized glitch on the phone I’m using or something else, but if you could help/give me feedback on how to fix this, that would be great! Again this is an awesome game, I definately recommend it, and thank you to The Chinese Room for making it!

  • Endearing, warm and fun - wonderful game!!

Little Orpheus drew me in innocently enough, but I was quickly ensnared by the overwhelming charm of this game. This visuals are gorgeous, and have this awesome old school cinematic filter that gives it the feel of a drive in movie sci fi flick, and I love it. The music is outstanding, similarly cued to its vintage movie flavor, and it’s perfectly done.. The story and voice acting though are what really drove this thing home for me. It’s written superbly and as the story winds and unravels, I became incredibly fond of the characters and their banter. The crescendo of the game in particular really made me like humanity a little bit more as a whole.. This is far more polished than I’m used to seeing on mobile, and I encourage anyone who enjoys side scrolling games to give this a visit!

  • Beautiful and funny

Wonderful, unique art style, great music, and a very funny story with great voice acting. The game itself is a very simple platformer, so the real attraction here is watching and listenting to Ivan's crazy story.
One unfortunate problem I ran into was using a game controller (DualShock 4). The game misses many of the button inputs, making it unplayable. This happened whether the controller was connected via Bluetooth or USB. I had to switch to keyboard controls to finish playing. Hopefully this is something the developer can address.
