Backgammon Now

Never, in 60 years of playing Backgammon, have I had or encountered such “luck” on dice throws as achieved game after game by the AI of this game. Add to that the dice throws that are, time and time again, the worst throw you could get and you’ll soon see that the odds are greatly stacked against you.

In every match AI achieves masses of doubles, just when needed and the player gets them virtually every time they are no use to you.

All “rigged” is the only conclusion. There’s no enjoyment to be found from playing. Deleting the app.

Edit. The above was yesterday. App’s dice rolling updated today. Tried games but nothing’s changed. If a normal, human opponent continually got the dice throws this AI gets you’d undoubtedly accuse them of “cheating” because no-one is ever that lucky in real life. Deleting again.

Great game

This is a good backgammon game. The rolls appear to be totally random, although on a couple of times the same dice roll has appeared three times in a row.
Good use of the doubling dice and you can determine the number of games in a match.
All in all a great game - well worth downloading.

The Backgammon Game I’ve Been Waiting For

I’ve tried so many Backgammon apps over the years, but this is the first one I’ve found that really delivers. It’s clearly been built by a team that really understands the game. Thank you! Highly recommended.

I like it

I quite like it. Took a few games to get in the swing but I’m now winning

Unbalanced RNG

I am really getting into backgammon, never really understood how to play before, and this is a good game to get started with. Having said that, though, the RNG dice rolls for the cpu-side are frustratingly biased in its favour at any difficult that's not 'easy'. 7-8 times out of 10, any blot you have is getting taken. I acknowledge that the odds a blot gets taken are always quite high, but the odds should at least be equal in both directions, which I suspect that they aren't. It's old-school 'rubber-banding' but in a boardgame context. Otherwise, it's quite a fun game!

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. We've updated our Random Number Generator to use the Mersenne Twister algorithm. However this doesn't generate a rolled number, this generates values that our physics system uses to throw the dice, i.e. rotations, torque, velocity, etc. Once the dice have rolled and landed we then look at the results. Exactly the same way you would if you were rolling physical dice!

New BG app.

It's great to see another BG app, unfortunately this one disappoints in a number of areas. The UI is good and easy to use, however even at the highest level the AI plays at a beginner level. Hopefully the AI can be improved or they could pay to use BGBlitz as without a challenging opponent, it's pretty pointless.

Total rubbish

This game is awful. The designer clearly has no idea about the actual game and even has the incorrect number of pieces laid out incorrectly.

The rules they use for moving are simply wrong as you are unable to progress beyond an opponents tile even if your landing space is clear.

Amazed this was recommended on the Apple today page... it is really terrible and not worth the time to download.
