I’ve used Kernel for years. It filled a perfect niche for tracking when new movies would be released in theaters and was easy to do so chronologically.
The 3.0 update removed searching movies chronologically (seriously, why is the Discover page filled with completely random orderings across completely different times?). You can view them chronologically in your saved list but so can dozens of other films that track such lists (and offer far more features and customization by comparison).
I liked this app because it filled a useful, straightforward niche and did so beautifully without bloat. Notifications were perfect. I use different apps for tracking movies/shows, but this new kernel app seems to try to mimic some of the features of other apps but does so less well while removing what the made app great in the first place.
I really wanted to like the update, and perhaps I will if you re-add some of the functionality and simplicity of the older version of kernel. But after 7 months of waiting it doesn’t seem like that on the roadmap for the app moving forward for whatever reason. In an overcrowded movie/show market they’ve eliminated what made them stand out.
