Description of Head Shadow
Head Shadow is an iPhone app for people with hearing loss in one or both ears. When you play this app, the microphones on the iPhone or connected devices capture the nearby sounds. Then, a 10 Band Equalizer in the app amplifies the sounds to your listening convenience.
You need a pair of wired or Bluetooth earbuds to play this app. The EarPods shipped with new iPhones work well. Bluetooth earbuds, including AirPods and AirPods Pro, are fine too. For best performance, the ear tips on AirPods Pro should create a complete seal when placed in your ears. Likewise, EarPods and AirPods must form a tight fit to your ears.
AirPods and AirPods Pro include microphones for both ears, and their users can choose which microphone should be active. This is significant if you have single-sided deafness. You can place the AirPod with the active microphone in your deaf ear, and the other in your hearing ear. This app then captures sounds with AirPod in the deaf ear, amplifies, and crosses to AirPod in the hearing ear.
If you have hearing loss in both ears, you can use the Head Shadow app with any earbuds. The iPhone microphone is your best option for capturing the sounds, which leads to two ways to listen to the sounds. You can play the sounds on wired earbuds, like the original EarPods. This way, the wires are limiting, but you get the best sound output and latency. Or you can use any Bluetooth earbuds, for example, AirPods. You will enjoy the freedom of movement at a cost of a small inherent latency.
The Headphone Accommodations feature of iOS 14 is a free audio booster for all hearing aids. Your media and phone calls will sound crisper when you set up this feature with Apple EarPods. With AirPods Pro, you can set up using the audiogram data from your hearing test. This allows you to use the Noise Cancellation option for better hearing in noisy places. Use the Transparency option and appreciate sounds around you, with or without a hearing aid.
The iOS 14, and this app, amplify sounds with audiogram frequencies. When you use the AirPods Pro, iOS is doing the noise cancellation, and this app is not using iPhone resources. Instead, this app can fine-tune sounds when needed.
Head Shadow app is an AirPods Pro hearing aid if you have single-sided deafness. Set your AirPods Pro to Transparency Mode and listen to sounds from people around you, amplified and enhanced. Set them to Noise Cancellation Mode and hear someone on the side of your deaf ear, perfectly clear.
Head Shadow app provides four hearing programs when you first start. You can select the best program for the current hearing condition while listening, live, to a sound source. You can further refine the output of the selected program by our 10 Band Equalizer - EQ while listening to the sound. The app saves this refined program on the iPhone storage space and continues to use it until the next refinement.
We designed this app for the best user experience. We emphasize the ease and simplicity of use, accessibility, and optimum use of the iPhone battery. The app works in the background mode and responds to remote controls from the Lock Screen.
You can download and use this app for 30 days, free with no obligation to purchase. After that, you may purchase the app for a nominal one-time payment, no subscriptions are required.
Use the App Support link on this page to open the app’s website support page, where you can contact the developer. We appreciate your comments and feedback.
The Head Shadow app is not a substitute for a hearing aid with a doctor’s prescription. Play the app with the audio volume set to a low level, then increase to a comfortable hearing level. For more information, check the app’s Privacy Policy link on this page.
