Fun side scrolling Action

If you like old school difficulty this game has got it. For the price, it packs quite an adventure and solid entertainment. You jump and slash with a sword or shoot arrows across some platforming levels with some nice boss fights. Light RPG elements. Sprite work is fantastic. Definitely an underrated gem and one I would recommend for fans of old school platformers. Game has controller support

Thanks for your review! It will definitely be polished in next updates, thins kind of review are really helpful :)

Poorly formatted for iPhone 13.

Hopefully will get better, but this app is poorly formatted for iPhone 13. You can switch between full screen but it doesn’t stick between scenes. I have to remap the controls constantly. I am hoping this has controller support.

What I do like about this is the game. It’s minimalistic and still very challenging. I like the combination of challenge thrown at the player from both the environment and the enemies. Bosses are challenging. I also like the pixel art work and music. Just need some tuning around format and control schemes.

I would like to play this on Nintendo switch.

Poor level design

This game has way to many levels later on where you have to die many times in order to even find out what you were supposed to do. I don’t mind a hectic level where you need to be fast on your feet in order to beat it first try, but I find the impossibility of besting some of these levels first try annoying. The lack of direction in the later levels makes them very unfun.

Hey Wolf, I'm sorry to see you haven't enjoyed hard levels, we believe the difficulty must increase in order to be satisfied once you complete the game. Not really sure what might be confusing you but please contact support so we can help you, we want to have all our users happy :)

Average game, horrible controls...

The controls in this game are just terrible! The game isn’t hard, and the retro style is kinda cool...but controlling the character while jumping is a pain, and it makes some levels really annoying! You keep dying over and over again because the touch commands simply won’t work properly, specially the directional arrows...it feels like a waste of money to me...

Hi! I am really sorry to read this review and pretty surprised too, as controls are one of the things that users are loving most, especially on iOS devices. I would like to let you know you can adapt them to your needs on Pause Menu - Settings - Controls You can change the position and the size, hopefully that will help :)

Wanted to Love it, but not what I expected.

An okay game.. but I have a number of issues with this game. Let’s just go down the list.

1. Movement is too fast and isn’t correctly calibrated so you drag along platforms making it hella hard to land sometimes.

2. Controls don’t seem to be calibrated right either. I had to tap multiple times to even move once I jump or slide along the wall, cause many many many pit deaths.

3. Man, the health. You lose WAY too much health when fighting a regular enemy. Even on easy i found my health gone after 3 hits. Unreal and very annoying.

4. No way to dodge, dodge button would have been very useful. And you can’t attack from every angle an enemy attacks from. I.e: There’s an enemy directly above you coming down, but you bow only angles to a slant so you can’t avoid getting hit unless you move, and like I said before, controls aren’t calibrated right so it’s a hassle trying to maneuver.

5. Not a big problem but I’m big on this in the gaming world: RUNNING ANIMATION. Why does it look like he’s jogging? I mean come in, the way a character moves is very essential. Give my man some stride room. Pep in his step. He a king.

———-

Update: tried to give it another shot and I’m STILL having major problems with the platforming and enemies hitting me even though I attack first and they’re not in range. Not to mention the enemy directly on top of you thing smh. I regret spending my $5 on this honestly. Such a shame. Had the potential to be a really good game.

Hey Lucas, First of all thanks for purchasing Unbroken Soul. Also, thanks for the detailed explanation of what you didn't like. About the first and second issues, I'm really surprised about this, controls are one fo the things we've worked a lot and have had really good reviews about them, really doubt we can improve that(just want to make sure you know you can adjust them in settings, depending on your device and preferences you might want them bigger, on a different position, etc...) About the third issue, I'm wondering if you have been upgrading the character, it is definitely necessary or it gets too hard(talk with the different NPCs around the town to upgrade armor, sword, bow and special attacks). Dodging would be an interesting addition and we though about it, but it would make things too easy in most situations(also, trust me, once you get the hang of the controls they are super smooth and you'll be able to avoid enemies in any situation). I would suggest trying to get the hang of it again, but it is on purpose a pretty hard game, if after all you are not enjoying the game please request a refund, we only want to have happy players :D

Wanted to like

Really really hard, lots of promise but the second boss is impossible. Will upgrades help?? I’ve bought some but not sure if this will help get pass this boss.

Updated: upgrades help, trying to get into this again. Shows promise.

Hi! Upgrades will definitely help, you can also change the difficulty level to easy :) Every boss has its own pattern, you will eventually get the hang of it and notice it’s super easy😄 Hope this can help you enjoy and complete the game and hopefully get your 5 stars😊

This soul ain’t broken.

I’m a fan of 2-D, side-scrollers. Especially when they’ve a retro aesthetic. Unbroken Soul, by Oscar Ruiz, checks off all the boxes. The graphics are appealing. The gameplay is fun. The storyline is interesting. There is no IAP to be had. Lastly, this is what it claims to be—a side scrolling action platformer. It’s not an auto-runner or single screen puzzle type.

The only problem I had were the touchscreen controls. They were on the small side and easy to miss. Then I found out they could be customized to my liking, which eliminated the issue. Top marks! I don’t know why this isn’t being pushed on iOS, but I am glad I happened across it. Broken Soul was money well spent.

Thanks a lot for this great review! This helps a lot😄🙌🏼

Fun but..

I like side scrollers like this, graphic art is cool too, although the controls are too slippery, very easy to push down by accident and falling off ledge to my death or something, also support for iPhone 10 would be nice

Response from developer

Thanks a lot for your review :D A new update is coming this week and I'll add your requests to the list. Pressing down will be a little bit harder to avoid accidental presses and stretching the screen to fit the iPhoneX perfectly will be added as an option in the menu. Some more things coming are boss dialogues not appearing every single time you face them as it gets annoying and spikes won't instakill the player in Easy and Medium mode. Again, thanks for your review and hope I can get your 5 stars in next update ;)

Great Game!

I typically do not write reviews but I felt compelled because this game has amazing game play and an interesting story. I find it just challenging enough that i keep picking up my phone to play it. Well worth the price 👌🏽
