Description of Illuminance Pulsation Meter

The application will help you choose a lamp, monitor or laptop with a screen without pulsations. A high coefficient of pulsation can affect fatigue, well-being and eye strain. The application allows you to measure the ripple coefficient of radiation sources in the visible spectrum: - LED, halogen, fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps - various lamps - LCD and LED monitors and TVs The readings are not 100% reliable and the average error depending on the light source and the frequency of pulsation can be more than 10%. In order to take measurements, you need to bring the phone to the measured source and press the start button. The measurement results will be updated in real time, the arrow will show the ripple factor, and the scale will be filled from green to red. For best results, keep your phone straight. If the phone is not fixed, an image of the shaking device will appear in the lower left corner of the screen and the readings will be very different from the actual ones.

Reviews of Illuminance Pulsation Meter

  • Good app with lots of potential

Can only measure frequencies up to 100hz. Would love to see some more advanced frequency counting or use of the slow motion camera to measure higher frequencies. The onboarding process is a bit much, could probably simplify that as using the app is very straight forward.

    Developer Response

Hello! Fatigue is affected by pulsations up to 300 Hz and most often light sources pulsate at 100 Hz. This is due to the mains voltage and inexpensive light power supplies. Thank you for your feedback. We are constantly working to improve our product.
  • Not clear what it does

It outputs a number from 0 to 100. What does it mean? Main frequency? Intensity? Something else?

    Developer Response

Hello! The pulsation of the light flux is measured as a percentage (%). 100% when the light source goes out completely and lights up, for example, at a frequency of 100 hertz, the light goes out and lights up 100 times per second. The human eye cannot detect this flicker, but it has a strong effect on fatigue.
  • Background information

I like the app but not totally sure what it is telling me. More strobing is bad I’m sure but more info on what should I be thinking about doing based on the readings I’m getting?

    Developer Response

Hello! These measurements will help you understand how large the ripple (flicker) coefficient is. Anything with a value above 10-15% has a high ripple. The higher the coefficient, the stronger the effect on eye fatigue and the general condition of the body. The data obtained will help to choose lamps without flicker.
