Missing ability to use a pump action & shotgun defense drills.
Oddly the app seem to focus on skeet and trap shooting, which is nice and refreshing as that’s not what I expect it but is helpful. The downside is they seem to leave out shotgun defense & offense training drills like they have in the pistol / rifle app.
It really does not like a pump action shotgun and registers the rear movement of the pump to eject the shell as a shot, and the forward motion to chamber another shell as a second shot. The app absolutely shines when it comes to skeet and trap shooting with an over / under shotgun. I haven’t quite figured out a way for it to be useful training without live fire, unlike the pistol and rifle app which definitely has plenty to do when dry firing.
It has the option to do dry fire drills however because it’s only designed for skeet and trap shooting without actually having some thing flying through the air you really don’t get much use out of it in dry fire mode.
The mantis X has been an incredible device and I’m still just scratching the surface of what it can do. Tomorrow I plan on taking it out and putting it on a recurve bow; it’s really great to see it has so many options. I just really wish that they would expand on the shotgun app because right now it’s really only useful if you’re out doing live fire skeet shooting. Don’t expect to be able to use it as of now with the shotgun app doing any of the types of drills you see with the pistol/rifle app and it really doesn’t work well with a pump action shotgun.
