I really really wanted to use this as my DAW but I ran into some dealbreakers. I don’t have the best eyesight so if I use any auv3 plugins they are to small to read and unusable. Using auv3 plugins also has some bugs as I’m sure you’re aware. Also I get popping sounds from my audio interface (komplete audio 6 powered via usb hub) and changing the buffer size doesn’t fix it. I don’t get this popping sound in other DAWs. I really like the u.i. And the workflow so I might try it again after you have some more updates.

  • App Is Not Recognizing My Roland Cloud Membership

I signed up for a Roland Cloud Membership and Zenbeats is not recognizing my membership! I see the membership inside Roland Cloud Manager and have no problem using Zenology Pro inside Logic Pro X. No such luck trying to use any of my membership plugins inside Zenbeats for macOS or iOS. Also the user interface of the app does not offer the best user experience to say the least.
After reaching out to Roland customer support my membership was made visible inside the app and I could view all my content. It’s really nice to have all the rich Roland sounds in the palm of my hands!

  • Best DAW for iOS even post Logic - just needs multi thread

I tried Logic for the iPad and it isn’t the same as Logic Pro X for desktop. I found a thread on audio bus that extolled the greatness of the little known Zenbeats by the amazing Roland, which had me skeptical but it was on sale so I bought the unlock and I am stunned. This is the best DAW on iOS and since its cross platform, you can argue the best round trip 1:1 DAW for Mac.

The DAW has two things it needs: multi threading for the new multi core chips and Slightly better audio processing.

I would simply just settle for Multi thread so that it can compete with Cubasis 3 and Logic.

  • Weak MIDI editing, no IAA, Single velocity sample layering

UPDATE: VERSION 3.0 AND 3.1 destroy MIDI FX capabilities. They are completely GONE! Does no one at Roland ever use or try a MIDI effect? All my projects are unusable. If there is some new secret handshake to make them appear and be useable, please share it. As to the previous review below; MIDI FX allowed me to use a full featured MIDI editor like Atom or Helium (along with Rozeta plug ins) THAT NO LONGER WORKS. ---------------------------------------------- Why this would not be important is unfathomable. I keep waiting and meanwhile I stay with BeatMaker 3. BM3 has great MIDI editing AND a multilayer sampler. Bring those things to ZenBeats and you’ll have a serious contender.

  • Some of everything.

I got this app hoping I could use it for live gigging but then that is probably not the purpose for it. 😃 I wished I could layer sounds and use it for drum tracks but to me it’s really best used as a daw. The sounds and packs are ok. I think certain types of artists will get more out of this app. I give it 4 stars because of all it offers. The subscription seems to be worth it if you are invested in Roland products. It’s great that they have tiers so that you can get a feel for the app. I probably won’t renew but only because I was not easily able to find how this would fit me. Overall I think this is worth the investment.

  • Biggest problem.

Spend like two hours making perfect drum kit. Add effects and all. Finally get it the way you want. Then in the first two minutes of jamming accidentally hit the > arrow where you select drum kit. And boom it’s gone. And you can’t hit undo to get it back.

Either remove those, pretty unneeded anyways when you got hundreds of kits or add a lock function so you can’t change the drum kit without a ARE TOU SURE? Prompt

  • Please add Dropbox!!!!!

I am an Ultimate subscriber. I love that this app is multi platform! Roland sounds are awesome! I would like to have the ability to share stems, mixes, and songs to my Dropbox. Great job Developers ! Please keep the updates coming! This app is just getting better and better.
  • GarbageBand you have apple?

I’ll give them 4 stars simply for the hardware this app is used for
The difficulty transferring and the complexity that’s just simply unnecessary.
    Walkthroughs are scarce…
  • They r not abandon this as “a past project.”

My person wrote this review, to help everyone. The developers and users.

Roland as a corporate entity has Enuff on their plate with all past equipment gear to be relevant during this “gen z age.”

Come on there r consider old by those youth standards. Soooooo Zenbeats is really the best integration as a platform product.

As well content provider. From sample loops to sounds gen z would use in their ideas of music.

Now something may not work. Or their maybe a crash.

Just saying. This app is worth the purchase. Idk about yearly subscription. Or even monthly.

But don’t fall asleep on Roland Zenbeats.

  • Finally, customer service

This app is pretty fun. has a bit of a learning curve but if you’re used to apps like NanoStudio 2, BeatHawk, BeatMaker, Drambo, or even Gadget 2 you will like this app. I would suggest watching a tutorial or two before you jump right into it as I found myself going in circles for a minute. I own (also have beta tested) hundreds of apps between ten iOS devices over ten years. So, I would like to think I know a bit or two about apps. I am not a fan of subscription models but the monthly fee is not that expensive. I will give Roland credit for that. I have owned many apps that I have paid for and then they have turned them into subscription-based and you cannot access your previous purchases. This app is not like that. if you have purchased it you can still use it. My major gripe is the “point “way of purchasing in-apps. Why they just can’t give you a price instead of points is beyond me. It is reminiscent of going to a festival or a street fair where you have to purchase tickets for everything and by the time the day is almost over you either have to purchase more tickets (because you don’t have enough for one last drink or one last ride) or you end up giving your tickets to someone else because who needs that extra ticket(s) when you can’t get anything with it. Or like a lot of jukeboxes nowadays where you pay and you get so many credits. All of the songs you played were two credits and you only have one credit left so you are basically screwed out of that last credit-lol. I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone-I might just be old. I will say that they have finally gotten their customer service up to par. I certainly hope they keep up with their customer service because it used to be awful and I have to say they are on top of things now and that makes a big difference to me. I will never go on a review page and just leave a bad review unless I have tried to contact the developer a few times without any response. That was the case with this app for some time, but they finally started responding which made me bump up my review.
