Description of BeatBalance

BeatBalance is a tool to help serious drummers efficiently hone crucial elements of basic technique: note spacing, timing accuracy, dynamic control, timekeeping and hand-foot coordination, using a practice pad. It's a runkeeper, but for drums. Identify problem areas with timing and dynamics, using millisecond-accurate measurement and unique analysis tools. Track progress over time and identify which elements of your practise routine are delivering benefits, and which need to be refined. Sharpen perception and execution with real-time feedback on timing and dynamics. Patented silent metronome and adaptive guide feedback help you develop confidence with timekeeping and advanced rhythms. Speed Builder mode (for subscribers) helps gradually increase the speed of execution: play accurately and consistently and the tempo of the metronome will increase for the next attempt.

  • Needs a lot of work

barely functioning UI, frequent crashes, random help/promotional screens with no back option which forces you to close the app and reopen it, these screens frequently come after you finish an excersize, and closing the app deletes the data from that recording. the app is not usable in its current state. even *if* all the above issues were fixed, all of the actual useful features and advertised functions of the app are locked behind a subscription paywall (yes, not even a one time fee, a subscription) the way the app works is also fundamentally flawed. unless you have abnormally long (like, really abnormally) headphones, more specifically ones that are abnormally long *after* they split into L and R wires, you're going to have an extremely hard time just getting the app to work. because your phone needs to have one earbud next to its mic for this app to work, the maximum distance from your phone to you is however far your two earbuds can be apart. and the rest of your headphone wire will just dangle between you and the phone. I shouldn't have to explain why this is a bad thing to have right next to rapidly moving arms and sticks. you're better off recording yourself with a metronome and opening the waveform in audacity (a free program!)

  • New version issues.

I've been using the free version for a while. When I saw the new interface and how it was working I subscribed. Problem is now after I get done with an exercise there's a screen with suggestions before it goes to the analysis more often than not that screen locked and I have to re-open the app which sometimes isn't happening and I'm unable to open it again. Really hoping this gets addressed.

  • Practicing like never before!

I absolutely love this app. It’s super motivating because you get immediate feedback and can see your progress. I’ve always had a hard time practicing on a pad because I get bored, but this makes it so fun and is super beneficial for developing your timing.

One thing that would be cool is making it easier to pick patterns. There are a lot of combinations, but it’s a little annoying to have to click through all the patterns when you create a new exercise. It would be cool to just be able to type in your own pattern too.
Adding triplets would be a great feature too, but I’m getting tons of use out of this app regardless.
