About the Byway The Boom or Bust Byway follows Highway 2 and is defined by the Louisiana/Texas border and Hwy. 3049 on the west and Lake Claiborne on the east. The byway is comprised of four parishes: Caddo, Bossier, Webster, and Claiborne. As part of Louisiana’s French legacy counties are called “parishes” in reference to the territories that were historically under the pastoral care and clerical jurisdiction of one parish priest. Even today the Napoleonic Code (rather than Common Law) holds sway in the state’s courtrooms.

  • Would have loved it if…

I searched and searched for something telling me where to begin the tour. I found nothing, so opted to start in the east at Homer. Big mistake. Not everything to see is on the map. I quickly realized the automatic storytelling and stop ideas the app was suggesting where things I had already passed. With very few places to turn around, a lot was missed.

Begin your tour where Hwy 1 crosses Hwy 173. Head north on Hwy 1. You will come to split in the trail, turn right and you will circle back around. Wish I had know this before I took my 130 mile trip.
