  • Just stay away from this product

A smart lock is pointless if you can’t trust it to lock/unlock your door consistently. Sure, the lock locks good and Wirecutter likes it, but in everyday usage it’s garbage.

We go this lock to use with HomeKit so we could go on runs with nothing but an Apple Watch. And like many have reported. It kind of worked OK initially, and then it just stopped working consistently. It’s to the point where I have to get a bunch of keys made after getting locked out of the house multiple times.

But this is an app review, so let me get to that…it’s. The #1 thing you need from a smart lock app is to be able to determine the status of your lock. Is the door locked or unlocked? What’s my battery status? Well, good luck figuring out if your door is locked—more often than not you’ll get unable to connect error. As for the battery status, it’s buried AND it’s not very informative. It’ll ready “Healthy” in the morning and then the battery will be dead when you get home, leaving you locked out. At one point I saw a battery level indicator on the main screen, but that didn’t last long as it’s since disappeared. Also, if the lock/app can send you (often very delayed) push notification alerting you to changes in the lock status, you’d think they’d be able to send a low battery notification. Nope.

Bottom line, avoid this app and associated products and don’t repeat the very expensive mistake we made.
  • Locke out without warning unable to enter my home

The lock has been working fine up until today when I came home and I tried to unlock it and it said the battery was dead, but it never gave me any warning or indication that the battery was going dead. You would think that with this technology I would have gotten some notification that the battery was going dead. I never got any kind of notice when I got home and could not get in, I had to do damage to get in. if I could get my money back, I would and I would not recommend anyone use this unless they like being locked out of their house without any kind of notice.
  • Perfect concept, weak execution

**Brand new product won’t update firmware, unable to use features** I just installed my level bolt. It doesn’t fit quite as good as the previous bolt did but some minor tweaks to the door fixed this issue. After swapping out all of the necessary equipment, initializing connection to the level bolt, and attempting to use the bolt, I’m immediately hit with a firmware 2.26.1 update. While standing in the same position to connect to the level bolt (approx 1ft away), it now says that there was an update error and I need to stay close to the lock, indicating a connection issue. I’ve changed various locations around the lock and changed my phones vpn settings but the app continues to say it can’t complete the update, which renders the tech functionality of the bolt useless. I just received this product, and based on the numerous other reviews talking about connectivity issues, update issues, and battery drainage, I’m inclined to just return this product as it’s become an overpriced dumb-lock. An unfortunate and quick end to the product for me; the idea was excellent but the execution/sustainment seems to be a dumpster fire.
