Unbelievable in the worst way.
I was playing Tetris, lovely, amazing game, and I genuinely mean that, but… I was playing marathon, not even trying to beat my score but suddenly I did out of nowhere and as you know the blocks speed up as you place them, so I continued for as long as I possibly could, my new high score was 96, 743. A bit of personal context, I haven’t played in a while got a tad bit burnt out, but felt the need to come back and have a little dabble, so you must understand my happiness, overjoyed, excitement when I beat my score, I lose the game pressed the home button and took a break. So let’s imagine my dismay when I go back onto the app press on the lovely marathon and see my high score no longer my high score, it was my old score not my new appreciated score of 96, 743…. Tetris I am utterly disappointed and disgusted, I love this app and have been playing since the Nintendo ds days. This is my overall review and maybe I can change my views but after this I don’t even know anymore.

Controls are terrible
I’ve played competitive modern tetris for years and the controls are absolutely terrible. Instead of forcing players to swipe in order to move and place pieces, add buttons for players to press instead. Swiping makes it so much harder for players to move their pieces (e.g trying to differentiate between soft drop and hard drop for tspins, where even a slight difference in speed can cause you to accidentally hard drop the t piece you wanted to use). Swiping to the left/right is awkward too because its natural for players to swipe in a slight diagonal motion when trying to move pieces across (e.g diagonally downwards to the left) since it’s very uncomfortable to swipe in a perfectly horizontal direction. But this vertical component of the swipe can often be registered as a hard drop if done too quickly, especially when under pressure. The controls are too awkward to be used in competitive play, instead please add custom or alternative controls that players can use. You can add a custom GUI for players to customize their own controls via buttons, as stated earlier, for things such as hard drop, soft stop, clockwise rotation, anti clockwise rotation etc.

New update is ridiculous
This game used to be so good, just classic Tetris with a local leaderboard. Now it has turned into one of those real life reward games with ads plaguing the game. I don’t mind ads that much but the ads in this game make the actual game very glitchy to play. It seems as though the ads stop the music from playing as well which is kinda just unsatisfying because I used to enjoy all the different themes for the marathon mode and sounds/soundtrack included in them. It seems that unlocking new themes is impossible which is sad to see as many of the themes where very creative and fun to unlock. The fact that this is an official game is baffling to me as it seems like a knockoff version trying to scam you of your time.
Please bring the old version back, even as another entire app. I miss it.

It is okay, needs to improve
The sound randomly stops. I don’t always enjoy playing games with sound on but Tetris is be try nostalgia for me so I wanted to play with sound. While playing, the sound suddenly stops and I have to close and reopen the app. Also, the experience does not feel like the original Tetris I used to enjoy. I would like there to be an option to play not in levels but endlessly like the original Tetris where the longer you kept playing, the faster it became without the level suddenly stopping. Of course, it would be good to have the option to save any progress if doing this. When I go to move the object to another position, it accidentally rotates the object too, and its so frustrating. Overall, I haven’t enjoyed it 100%, and am deleting the app in search for the original Tetris. Did enjoy some games.

This is my second attempt at writing a review, because my app store crashed while writing the first one. This is a problem I have experienced multiple times after installing this app, giving it many chances over a few years: somehow, it runs so badly that I can't have it installed without it breaking the rest of my phone.
This is a Tetris-specific issue, too. No other app lags as much as Tetris does. I could play Call of Duty Mobile at a smooth 60fps if I wanted to. I have no idea how it is possible to make a game designed in the 80s, able to run on a block of cement, fail to work in the year 2024, 40 years after its inception.
I don't know if it is only me with this issue. I don't know if this is even the app's fault. All I know is I sit here, unable to play Tetris, baffled by this catastrophic failure of modern science.
I have no choice but to give this app one star. I hope one day I can enjoy Tetris again, but that day is not today.

VIP store doesn’t work
Ive been playing a while I’m currently level 210 odd and I have around 67k in coins. I like the game itself the adds can be annoying but it’s not that bad and you can play levels or do your own thing on marathon. However the most frustrating is whenever I enter the vip store I crash. I tried getting rid of other apps to make more data space, which I already plenty of. I tried contacting support which told me I didn’t have an account when I in fact due and I’m still waiting on some help or response, which I highly doubt I’ll get. I’ve tried deleting and redownloading but nothing. It’s frustrating all I want is a free coffee brewing kit 😅 yet nothing. It’s disheartening to have something right there yet I can’t even use it. I do believe it is to do with the company or something or app because I find it rather ridiculous. Please fix the bug and crashes. Then I could see it being a much better game.

Replaced a perfectly valid Tetris with a money scam
Ads everywhere, weird level system which is more frustrating than unique or challenging as you recieve setups that would never occur in a Tetris game, let me repeat ads everywhere. Want to play a round? Ad before and after. Want to try the “boss” round? Better do it first try cause the only way to replay is through an ad. Intentionally small time blocks which don’t seem to be challenging so much as hoping you’ll spend actual money on the game or watch a 30 second ad for 20 seconds of time. More time watching the ad then you get in return. The old version was better, the slide controls felt smoother, I had way less blocks go flying to the side to root themselves immediately. I actually felt I had a chance to correct if I moved too far and in this game it just instantly sets when moving sideways for some reason, better hope it doesn’t register a tap before side sliding a piece in cause it will lock before you have a chance. Almost like it’s trying to get you to lose so you have watch yet another ad before you watch a second ad to try again. Feels money grabby and honestly the amount of ads seems above and beyond any mobile game I’ve played before. I was excited to play Tetris again and was faced with this and it completely ruined my desire to play anymore.

I thought It was great
There are a lot of bugs with this game. First of all doing the Marathon in online mode, makes it lag out. This lag is because of the ads on the top and bottom. At one point it crashed. Another thing is that to access offline mode you have to turn your wifi off and go into the game. When it asks you do you want to play in offline mode and you click yes, it will say connection failed. Why would there be a need for a connection? The only way to access offline mode is to turn off wifi, go in and click the offline mode button, then turn your wifi back on. Lastly, when I am in offline mode and beat my high score, it doesn’t save. This has happened 2 times already. My old high score was 16,666 I beat with something close to 16,689. And then I beat that with something in the 35,000s. So Tetris Company please fix these issues.

ANTI VIRUS PHISHING SCAM!!!!!
The game is riddled with ads and there is no way to pay to remove them. ON TOP of that, one of their ads is a mcafee anti virus PHISHING SCAM that AUTOMATICALLY brings you to their fake website while playing the game. absolutely disgusting and also embarrassing that they have allowed this to happen. THIS APP IS COMPROMISED if you download this game turn off data use for the app in settings and play offline.
