Zero stars
Who got paid to develop this authentication process? It’s a disaster. The UI is unbelievably poor, way worse than any of the 5 other banking apps I use regularly. When you’re trying to authenticate on the same device it opens the page you need underneath, so it’s unreadable (iPhone 15, Firefox browser). Convoluted, clunky, non-sensical. Fortunately I only throw money into an ISA and leave it; if I needed Cynergy for anything else I’d take a hit on the interest rate and put my money elsewhere.
The app ‘unregisters’ itself every time I close it so I have to go through a multi-step 2FA process to get it to work one more time just so I can log in. It’s just terrible; I’ve send feedback to the bank a month ago but they haven’t responded.

Absolutely useless
This app is the definition of useless, over complex and a total waste of time. The authenticator only works when it feels like it. There are so many different references to ID, passcode, swapping between mobile and desktop, and it falls over every time you need to use it in a hurry. The moment the interest rate drops on this account I'll move the whole lot somewhere else even though I've been with them for years. There new IT is a total pain in the backside.

Works perfectly
I don’t know why this app has received bad reviews. It works absolutely perfectly for me. It is a very simple process and I find it clever that it uses push notifications. I haven’t had an issue one single time using this app.
Do not use this bank
TL;DR: Believe the many reviews telling you how awful this app is. Just bank somewhere else. Opening a new, different bank account will be a lot less stress, hassle and frustration than trying to get the Cynergy app to work, never mind all the problems down the road.
I opened an account with Cyergy last week, planning to transfer most of my life savings into their grubby hands. Registered the app - but it failed. Tried again - also failed. Eventually got it registered - the whole app then locked up, and refused to do anything. Trying to get it to unlock meant repeatedly logging into the website which means - yes, they locked me out "for my own security".
I then spent half an hour on the phone with a man with a very thick accent, trying to get him to unlock my account, while he got more and more annoyed, and eventually told me that he could not unlock my account without my hanging up, calling them again, and going through this all over again - assuming no further problems.
I instead chose sanity, life and any other bank on the face of the earth.
If they are this bad with security, why on earth would I trust them with my £££££s?
Bank elsewhere.

Pointless waste of time
This app is absolutely worthless if customers can’t even register. The website is equally bad. I wouldn’t recommend Cynergy Bank to anyone.
Update. A week later and after a long customer service call that logged me into the account once, I still can’t log in. Customer reps never phone back. If you manage to get through, they only state what I already know should make it work. It doesn’t work. Closing the account and finding a competent provider. I urge anyone to do the same - there are plenty of alternatives.

Doesn’t work
I don’t mind that it’s a ‘different’ way to log in. My issue is that the app just doesn’t work. The message I receive when scanning the image says ‘this image does not contain valid credentials’. I have changed my phone but transferred all the apps over. This could be why, but then why design an app that would not work in the event of a new phone? My app says I need to register it to use online banking and advises I should log on to online banking on another device…. Which I can’t do because the authenticator app isn’t working, because it isn’t registered. An endless ridiculous cycle. Please Cynergy just stop with this nonsense. I have banked with you before (pre this app) but will never again. Terrible.

Does what it says on the tin
Once my account was opened I received the emails to download the Authenticator app to log on to online banking. Took me about 3 minutes to set it up and was logged in, in no time at all.
N.B. This isn’t an App to see your account info, it’s just an authentication app.

Better than it used to be
Having just applied for a savings account with Cynergy, the historic reviews of the app concerned me. I’m pleased to say they seem, on two days’ worth of use of the app, to have solved many of the issues. It’s still not perfect as it’s not completely intuitive, but it’s not bad and I’ve come across a lot worse.

Worst registration system ever
I’m young and fairly bright and I’ve just spent 30 minutes trying to register for online banking using a mobile phone. The most convoluted ‘system’ I’ve ever dealt with, virtually impossible, with multiple failures and repeats.
This app is useless, I genuinely feel for those who are less tech savvy, as I suspect they would be unable to complete the process.
Maybe the website option is better, I can’t comment. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with them often as I’m locking money away for years, but if I did I’d look elsewhere for banking services. Avoid.

Misunderstood
This app gets a lot of flack because their other banks use SMS authentication or otherwise and the users are missing the inherent flaws and massive insecurity in these systems.
Yes this app is a bit clunky, you can’t sign in with a single device, you need to ring them if you change devices (relatively painless took me 5 minutes) BUT nearly every other system is flawed by the fact a scammer can phone you up and talk you into handing over your login details as they login to your bank.
Not here. To login you need to be in front of the actual machine signing in, with your device in hand, a scammer can’t get round this, so it may be hated by many, but it does make for a strong system once you understand it.
