Free, accessible, clear

This app uses flash cards intermixed with brief video lectures. The lectures and clips are brief and helpful. Although I have only used this app a little, it is helping me understand more characters.

Excellent app!

This app provides a different style of teaching Mandarin characters. We are guided by a westerner throughout the process, who explains each step as we proceed. It is not the usual flash card memorization style.
He provides a very exacting process, teaching us the origins and present day use of the characters simultaneously through video guide, image and sound. This helps to clarify and illustrate the process in a really understandable way. It is interesting and fun to follow and makes remembering the complexities easier. I highly recommend it.

I am falling in love with Chinese

Of course, it's very hard to learn Chinese but this app helps a lot. I like the way of sketching in these lessons, now that calligraphy doesn't look so complicated. I'm at the beginning still but some there are much more lessons for me.

Well designed for learning Chinese

I love the friendly videos, efficient user interface, and radical-based character learning. I do wish there was an option for grading writing as a fourth category, even though the author specifically argues against it. I might not use handwriting in real life, but I personally consider it an important part of how I memorize characters. So I would like to be able to be promoted to write the character on paper (for a given pronunciation + meaning) and then swipe to indicate if I remembered how to write it correctly.

谢谢 for this very nice and detailed review ! I actually do agree with you, handwriting is also an important part of learning Chinese. The difficulty to integrate it in the APP is that it is actually a much slower process to memorize it and a much quicker to forget. Very soon you will only be left with flashcards of this writing aspect to learn... I take good note of your idea, and will keep thinking about how to integrate this in a efficient/natural way, eventually Ginkgo will have this option, but it is not here yet. And of course all suggestions are welcome at ginkgo.memory@yahoo.com !

Les petits vidéos sont très intéressants et renforcent notre apprentissage tout en nous montrant l’évolution des caractères
