Best light meter app for iPhone

I’ve tried several light meter apps for my film photography and none of them are as amazing as this one. First of all, it’s very well designed and super easy to see multiple aperture and shutter speed combos all at once for whatever exposure it reads. A super duper plus is that it can calculate reciprocity very accurately and even has reciprocity values for some film stocks already in the app. It has more features than even I need, like frame lines and focal length approximation. Overall, I’d recommend this app to anyone who wants a light meter app for any photography, it’s that good!

Amazing tool

While I often have a light meter on me, sometimes I don’t, or sometimes I just want a second opinion. And the other tools such as frame sizes for all my camera and lens combinations and composition lines just make shooting that much more fun and to be able to shoot with confidence. I recommend this to all my film shooting friends.

Phenomenal work

This app is clearly made with love and passion. Not only does it nail exposure, but its seamless design makes my workflow much smoother. Metering can sometimes feel like a chore, but the intuitive tools and ease of use keep me focused on the moment and fully engaged with my shot. I also love the camera preview, with its variety of frame lines and focal lengths.

Works very well! Entire roll perfectly exposed.

Tried this all out while testing a Yashica D TLR with Kodak Gold 200. Setting up the app to your cameras and films settings takes a little time but isn’t hard. All 12 shots came out perfectly exposed, and the link the log book app let me review each shot. Really well thought out pair of apps for film shooters.

Love this light meter ✨

This is my go to app now for shooting film. To be honest, it was a bit intimidating for a newbie film photographer when I first opened the app, but I soon got the hang of it.

I love the features that incorporates film stock and focal length. You can tell that the developer put a lot of love and thoughtfulness into the app. Would definitely recommend.

Grazie mille!

Just wonderful.

I’m a beginner film photographer looking for a light meter… and then I found this app. Just what I need. The app have lots of features like setting your film stock, if you have nd filters and more that make it wonderful to use. Clean, functional design. I also really like how it gives multiple combinations of fstop and shutter speed so you get use the desired aperture. Won’t need to search for another light meter app ever.

Absolutely fantastic 😁

Thank you so much for the kind words :)

So much care and attention

There’s clearly been so much care and attention gone into making this app, there’s plenty of options and settings.

Unfortunately it’s just far too cluttered and too much information on one screen at the same time.

I think this app really needs a design overhaul as really you just want 3 boxes on the screen showing SS - AP - ISO and the ability to lock 1 or 2 for different shooting modes and then maybe a second screen for more in depth settings. For casual and quick shooting it’s just too much for the eyes and takes a while to read the information for a clear answer on exposure settings.

I really appreciate what the developer has done with this app and clearly has put a lot of thought into it but in its current state I just can’t rate it higher over other options on the App Store

I get you, but the different approach to the UI/UX for a lightmeter app is exactly why Lightme was born and why so many people love it over the other apps! If you prefer the way of showing the measurements you described you'll find plenty of valid alternatives :)

The best light meter app, with a wonderful dev on top of that

Absolutely phenomenal app, the interface might take a little getting used to at first, but once you get the hang of it you’ll find other light meter apps lacking. With much attention to detail, the dev is also very responsive to feature requests, improvements and fixes.

Response from developer

Thank you so much :) I try to do my best! I know UI is definitely different from the others so one can feel a bit lost at first glance, but I've since added a short quickstart guide for new users to address that! Have some great light!

Best Meter App

I’ve gotten back into a film photography using vintage ROLLEIFLEX and Mamiya 645 cameras. I was using a different app for metering when my son found this and started using it. He recommended I try it and after one outing I deleted the other app and now use this exclusively. Easy to use and customize, and gets me perfect exposures.
