  • Great for all ages

This app is marketed to parents with small children, something that was made very clear upon first opening. However, I’m an autistic teen who’s struggled with my mental health for years. Pokémon has been a huge aspect of my life as it’s my special interest. I’ve struggled with personal hygiene for as long as I can remember and so finding a way to turn one of the least comfortable sensory experiences for me into a game involving something I love has been huge. I’ve brushed my teeth more in these last few days than I have in several months, and filling out the PokéDex has been what’s kept me motivated. Now I’m just waiting for Pokémon Shower and Pokémon Diet to come out because the Pokémon Company seems to be incredibly good at developing games for lifestyles and making things that are typically difficult and emotionally draining accessible to someone like me.

  • If you struggle brushing your teeth, this is the app!

I saw someone on twitter say to get this app if you have anything like depression, ADHD, or autism that makes consistently brushing your teeth a challenge. I haven’t been diagnosed with anything but I do often struggle with getting myself to brush my teeth every night, let alone in the morning.

Pokemon Smile didn’t make me suddenly brush my teeth everyday but I’ve seen improvement with how often I do and sometimes the idea of catching a pokemon in this cute art style gets me to do it.

Pair Pokemon Smile with something like the Habit Tracker app that can encourage you to brush your teeth and other tasks you may need to do every day, and brushing your teeth becomes so much less of a hassle. Recently I’ve gotten much better at brushing my teeth, in part because of the motivation that Pokemon Smile provides and in part improving my motivation otherwise.

  • Just a few recommendations

In my opinion, it’s a pretty good game. It makes brushing way more fun and even though it’s for kids a little bit younger than me, it’s still fun. But it’s not really a ‘good’ game, so I have 2 and only 2 things that might make the game better. 1. Have a break between brushing. Whenever I use it, it tells me to keep brushing until the timer goes off. This makes my mouth drip with toothpaste stuff in my mouth. So maybe just put some breaks here and there. 2. (It’s okay if you don’t add this) Maybe have like an online match where you battle with other people’s Pokémon. So picture this, you get chosen for a match. You pick your Pokémon and get ready. When it says go, you start brushing, the better you brush, the more damage you bring. The match ends when a Pokémon faints. I don’t know what should you get as a prize for beating it (maybe a hat or something) but it’s a pretty good idea. If you put this in the app, I’ll be very happy and glad that you got this message.
