As a fan of traditional Roguelike games, I can say without reservation that this game is a great starting point for a solid Roguelike game, and includes many of the expected features of the genre (i.e. turn-based, random dungeon generation, random loot). This is very much appreciated in a field saturated with games calling themselves roguelikes and having none of the traditional features.
I have only been playing for a short time, and have only reached dungeon level 9 maximum, so I can’t speak to the more advanced levels, but in the levels in have reached, the game could use some more variety, particularly in the monster category. Spiders are cool, but if they are all you encounter, it gets a bit dull. Even a few goblins or kobolds would help break the monotony. On the extremely rare occasions when other monster types are encountered, it has been a welcome change of pace, even if the new monster has been very tough to defeat. I hope that there are plans to add more different enemies in future updates.
Overall though, I think this is a great beginning that has the potential to become a very fun game, with the right updates. I just may not have the patience to stay with it while waiting for more variety to be implemented.
