1.1.1

Changes: - When scanning the camera now checks for blurry images. - Added a tip jar, if you're enjoying Braille Scanner and feel like dropping a few spare coins into the tip jar, it would be greatly appreciated.   Work in progress: I've started localising the app views. I'm not finished but I've started. Fixed: - Audio crash fixed: When scanning the app would crash if your camera lost and found a document quickly. - Out of bounds crash when viewing a document. Note on the version number, I'm not sure exactly how but I've managed to break the version numbers. This version is 1.1.1 how ever it's really 1.0.2 in disguise.

1.0.1

Changes -Added a mute sound button to the camera view. (Number 1 requested feature). Defects fixed: -VoiceOver on the document view. VoiceOver focus would be captured by the toolbar after listening to the document being read out. -Cloudkit usage has been removed. I implemented cloudkit incorrectly and was constantly refreshing data, so I hit my limits very quickly. I've temperately removed cloudkit for the next few app updates. -Reduced app size by removing some unused assets saved in the app.

Price History of Braille Scanner

Description of Braille Scanner

A page of Braille instantly changes to text with Braille Scanner. Using a combination of computer vision to locate the page and Machine Learning to match Braille to letters, Braille Scanner can show English letters above the Braille. The matched text can be copied for use in other applications, or spoken via Text-To-Speech. Braille Scanner is an excellent tool to help check the written word when learning to type Braille. - A teacher can use it to help check work in a classroom situation. - Proof read an assignment before sending it for marking. - Transcribe old documents before they become difficult to read. Of the various types of Braille in use, Braille Scanner currently recognises documents written in Unified English Braille (UEB Grade 1) commonly referred to as uncontracted Braille. Braille Scanner has been trained to recognise single pages of paper. Signs and other objects with Braille may not be recognised. Help to improve Braille Scanner by using the “Report incorrect Braille” option after scanning the sign or object. The image will be used to expand and refine the Machine Learning model that is used by Braille Scanner. Feature listing: - Auto document detection and scan - Paper page distortion correction - On device Machine Learning - Braille conversion using Unified English Braille (UEB Grade 1) - Text-To-Speech - Export converted Braille as text - Export Braille characters - 17 different app icons Braille Scanner is available for free - there are no subscriptions or in-app purchase items, and no registration is required. Data stays on the device used, and Braille Scanner has zero analytics data gathering. If you have any questions, feedback or feature requests I’d love to hear from you. I’m an indie developer working on this app and all feedback is welcome.

Reviews of Braille Scanner

  • Doesn’t work

Can see there is something to scan, generates a yellow box, blinks a bunch but won’t do anything but tel me to hold my device still.
  • Horrible

It constantly said the phone wasn’t steady enough, & if there was any wrinkle or markings on the paper, then it would read that material & infer what those random markings were saying. Immediately deleted after one set of Troy if 2 different documents.
  • Good app and good concept

I just heard about this app from a magazine I read called talking book topics from nils, and thought I would give it a try, there are some difficulties in reading braille text yet where it doesn’t like to read the full document and I have some brailled material that I tried it with too. I also figured out it won’t even read text I braille out in perky duck from duxberry systems. It is a neat app though and I think it would be a great classroom tool for those teachers that can’t read braille to help the students with their work but I think think it could still use some more bug fixes in its ability to decider braille text better.
