Great app
We already had the guidebook -- Maui Revealed, The Ultimate Guidebook -- so we didn't know how beneficial the driving guide would be. Answer: very beneficial. As we drove around Maui, the author gave a narrative of places where we were. Some of the narratives were just like the book's text, but hearing it while driving was much better than trying to read it and being unable to see what we were driving past. Many of the narratives were punctuated with descriptions and stories that are not in the guidebook. And driving tips were nice, too. For example, as we approached a highway intersection, the author would tell us which way to go -- For example, go straight to go to Kahului and turn right to go to Haleakala. We have used the Hawaii revealed books for years on several islands. After several years of being away, we returned to visit Maui last week and decided to try the app. We learned so much and literally drove every inch of the island listening and stopping where we wanted. I felt like Andy was our personal tour guide and good friend :) Can’t recommend it enough. Will definitely download again on visits to other islands in the future. Very helpful app
I bought the book to research for the trip and used the app while we drove around the island. We definitely saw more and discovered things I wouldn’t have remembered from just reading the book because of Andy’s helpful comments along the way. We would have missed out on the cool lava tube on the road to Hana if we didn’t have the app!! It was my daughter’s favorite stop! We were excited to see what we would learn from Andy everyday. Overall we appreciated the content, insight and humor. We liked they when there wasn’t anything to be said it didn’t play a repetitive sound track in the back and the humor didn’t make you cringe.
Our primary challenge was in the Road To Hana. He warns about driving too fast and audio getting out of sync, and we were in sync. But sometimes he talks too much without enough of a detailed description and the next thing you know you are past the point of interest. I would prefer he tells you what is coming up, short additional content and then tells you again when to turn BEFORE you arrive at the point of interest.
If you have the book, quite a bit of the content is directly from the book. It is supplemented by some new content.

If you can let us know some places you felt were out of sync (app@hawaiirevealed.com), we can go back and take a look at them. Remember too, you can play your own music between records, Andrew will interrupt it when you go over a point and your music comes back on where it left off when he is done narrating. We are traveling with our kids and Andrew became the main attraction! While we are in the road (and no phones and iPads allowed), we have been learning about the island and having fun with the stories! We used the app for the entire ride and back on the road to Hana, for the complete journey around West Maui (the views are worth the scary drive), and for our exploration of the beaches in south Maui.
