Description of Ecorche

Knowledge of anatomy is crucial for creating vivid and believable portraits. Ecorche is an anatomy learning app specifically for artists. The app has an intuitive interface for easy navigation through 4 layers of facial anatomy: • Skeletal — the foundation of the body, the bony landmarks help us track the muscles. • Muscular — muscles give the body it’s basic shape. • Fat — fat pads have a major effect on the shape of the face. • Skin — skin is a layer with more subtle features for an artist to capture. Skin, fat and muscular layers can be viewed in translucency ("X-Ray mode") to explore the layers relationships. In the "Gypsum Mode", you can turn your model into a sculpture. You can also customize the three-point lighting to your taste and thus study shape, value and color. In the free version, you can observe the skin layer in both default and "gypsum" modes, all other functions are available in the Pro version. The "Lex" model is created by the talented artist Kent Trammell from CG Cookie.

Reviews of Ecorche

  • Please fix the split screen mode.

Whenever I want to draw in procreate and see this ref side by side, your app “squishes” so to speak and the reference is not at its proper side. Please fix it, it will be hard to enjoy it without this issue being fixed. I paid for the pro version as well and would like to see it really being a “pro” app. Otherwise beautifully made, I’m hoping to see perhaps a female and child model sometime.
  • Great app for drawing reference!

I use this app as a drawing reference for skulls. Each area is labeled and can be colorized. Great app, this is better than most. I bought the full version and do not regret it. Available for apple and android so it’s awesome that I can have it on my galaxy phone AND my iPad. I don’t normally leave reviews but this deserves it. Only flaw - I’d love to be able to rotate the position of the skull with 2 fingers. I can rotate the angle of the skull, but the skull has to stay in the middle of the screen - I can’t use two fingers to put it in the top left corner or anything. An update for that would make this app absolutely perfect.

    Developer Response

Thanks for the feedback! Please update the app — now you can change position with two fingers.
  • Cannot Upgrade

    Hello,
Love the app but I would like to have access to the upgrade features - I cannot press “Buy” currently.

Thank you! Please update the app and try again :)
