Sorry for your experience with the app. An update is now available which addresses these bugs, especially in kanji. Also, where appropriate the app uses now kanji and hiragana representation. I took the time to verify the data with native Japanese teacher. There are now example sentence for the majority of words and kanji. The amount of free content, additional languages is now much bigger than before. All lessons are also available through a one time in-app purchase, without the need for a subscription.
