Description of Headlight

Did you know that flicker from bad electric lights could be exposing you to negative health effects like headaches and migraine? Headlight allows you to test the quality of the electric lights in your surroundings and detect bad lighting. Any flicker is displayed visually on the home page and you are given the opportunity to examine the light closer.  The app analyzes the flicker and flicker percentage of the light to determine a score for how good or bad the light is. This score is based on the limits used by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.  The app also provides tips on how to improve your lighting to improve your wellbeing.

Reviews of Headlight

Terrible

I tested a few LEDs and kept getting 0 flicker

Then I set up a PWM led and captured bars on the iPhone camera

Then tried this app - it said 0 flicker

This is a joke

Outstanding

I am so pleased to find that an app like this exists. The interface is great and I can finally stop having to delete slow motion videos of walls from my phone.

My only “complaint” is that I wanted to buy the app immediately but had to use the trial scans up in order to do so. One scan was enough to secure my money.

I would like to see an adjustment setting to change how sensitive it is to what is “bad” as I think I’m more sensitive than most and would like to be able to configure that in the app.

This is the easiest app purchase I’ve made in a long time.

Finally, a flicker detector app that actually works!!

I’ve been searching for an app like this for years, and I’m so glad someone finally (re)developed this app!

I am highly sensitive to the flicker/PWM strobing from (usually cheaper) light sources and try to avoid buying those bulbs as much as I can. Unfortunately, the flicker detector app that Viso Systems had developed was long discontinued in favor of their professional hardware that likely costs an arm and a leg. I had been using the slo-mo camera trick to detect flicker, but I’ve always wanted to see more information about the flicker, which seems simple enough to calculate with an app and has definitely been done before as shown by Viso.

I finally came across this app and it’s basically everything I had wanted and more. Not only does it detect flicker, it also shows the flicker frequency as well as the amount of actual flicker (which I had not previously considered). Best of all, it wraps all of this information in a simple yet highly informative and user friendly interface for those who aren’t aware of this phenomenon. Finally, it has a completely functional 6 test trial, after which I happily purchased the unlimited tests for $1.99. Thank you so much for developing this app!
