This unique app plays an endless stream of soothing music using the sounds of world instruments. It even works in the background while your phone screen is locked.
Original music, background images, haze filters and spinning meditation wheels are presented randomly so that your experience is different every time you use the app.
Peaceful World Music is useful in these situations:
it relaxes you when you are feeling stressed
it helps clear your mind when you are overwhelmed or confused, and helps induce a quiet mind for meditation
it restores energy through the positive effects of properly structured, diatonic music based on the physics and acoustic principles found in nature, such as the harmonic series and the Fibonacci sequence.
when played with the volume low, the music will often induce a calm state, helping you rest and refresh, or even fall asleep.
Important notice
This is not a medical or therapeutic app - it is intended for relaxation, destressing and meditation, and is meant to appeal to those who love the sound of world music instruments.
The music in this app is built using the sounds of instruments from various regions around the world. However, it is original music, not the traditional music of the respective world regions.
Without attempting to mimic or appropriate the traditional forms, this music has drawn inspiration from the timbral characteristics of the instruments, while being essentially rooted in essentially Western diatonic idioms, melodies and harmonies, which are themselves based on the natural physics of the harmonic series.
When shipped, the app is configured to play the "all songs" playlist, in order. To play the songs in random order, press the Shuffle button (two arrows crossed). The grouping of songs into regional playlists cannot be changed. However, you may create and edit your own custom playlists, selecting only the songs you would like, and the order in which they are played.
To save battery, the timer in the settings can be used to turn off the music after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or never.
The random order of pieces encourages the brain to try to make some sense by tying the pieces into some sort of story or flow, much as it would do while you are dreaming.
The settings screen allows you to set a timer, select regions you prefer, and even choose the color of the haze through which the background pictures are shown. The haze is a visual filter which softens the visuals and helps to tune out the brain, causing it to pay less attention to minute details, and achieve a more relaxed or meditative state.
The app has been designed to continue playing music even if your screen automatically goes dark due to your battery-saving setting, or if you turn off your phone with the app in the foreground. Also, if you switch to another app, the music will continue.
In background mode, the app detects the world region of the music that was being played, and plays a loop of all the pieces from that region, and is interrupted once you resume using the app.
To stop the music when it is playing in the background, you need to select the app and press the PAUSE button. Or simply close the app by flicking upward on it in the App Switcher.
Visually soothing background pictures are also shown with a meditation spinner in random order, flowing into one another independently of the music being played. These are faintly tinged in a colored hue of the user's choice. There are therefore two parallel, independent streams continuously running: auditory (music) and visual (background images, spinners and titles).
