Version 4 adds new features, refines old ones

I’m happy to report that the latest version of Loop has fixed the issues I encountered with text input breaking the Mac app. The feature can now be toggled from the settings UI, and it now works normally across my devices. (Previously, I had to disable syncing temporarily and manually edit the preferences file to turn this off.) The addition of categories for sorting presets is nice, and it could seal the deal for users of other apps with a similar feature who were holding off on trying Loop.

Easy to use

Easy to use with an attractive UI. I wouldn't mind a duplicate option for the intervals.

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for your feedback. Good suggestion, cycles for specific intervals is planned for a future update. I’ll let you know when it’s ready. Have fun using the app!

Great on iOS, but currently broken on macOS

Loop recently prompted me to try a "natural text input" mode on my Mac that makes it possible to quickly create timers by typing. I decided to try the feature and enabled it, only to discover that I can't type anything anywhere and there's no way to turn the feature back off. The app still works well on my phone, but the desktop app is now stuck in this unusable state. Shouldn't there be a toggle for this new feature in the settings so that enabling it isn't permanent?

Version 3.14.1: good timer app + how to make it better

NOTE: This review is about the paid version.

PROS:
Looks beautiful, as if it was made by Apple.

Lots of sound options for each timer’s start, finish, interval, and reset - including the option to have no sound.

When there are multiple timers, you can tap on the timer’s circle to highlight the timer’s data on the left-side, and vice versa.

You can set any timer to infinity cycles, so that it only stops when you end it.

The iOS app can sync with the Mac app using iCloud, so that each app always has the same timers.

The paid version is a one-off payment, instead of a subscription model (which I avoid like the plague).

The paid version is absolutely worth it - plenty of options for each timer: sounds, icons, colours. Make each timer look and act how you want.

Support for dark mode, which is easier on the eyes.

Works in landscape mode and portrait mode.

The developer responds to reviews.

Regular updates to squash bugs and improve the app.

HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER:

Give “Skip Interval” and “Reset Timer” their own buttons, so we can just tap on it instead of having to tap the “>>” icon and tap a second button.

Under the “Presets” tab, change the buttons from circles to rectangles with rounded-corners that take up all the horizontal space in the tab - that way they're bigger, and easier to push.

Under the Active tab, make the buttons bigger, so that they're easier to push.

Add red as a colour option.

Offer a trial-version so that we can try all the options of the paid-app before paying for it.

CONCLUSION:
A good app, with some room for improvement - 4 stars.

Promising but a bit confusing

I’m trying to find a way to show the interval (cycle) timer rather than the total time remaining but I don’t know how or if it’s possible at all. At least now it’s not showing multiple timers on the Lock Screen for a single active timer after the latest bug fix release.

Update:
Revisiting my review and updating it to 5 stars (from the previous 3 stars). The changes and the constant effort the developer has shown to address the problems and constantly enhance the app are commendable.

Hi, multiple live activities are „stacked“ on the Lock Screen. You need to tap on the topmost to see all live activities. If that doesn’t work, please restart your phone. Edit: With Loop 2.6, interval information can now also be shown in the live activity. Hope that you like the update.

Great interval timer, ESPECIALLY for Apple Watch!

I had been using MULTITIMER for years for my multi-interval timing needs. Unfortunately, it became less reliable over time, and the watch interface especially was suffering. So I went looking for a replacement.

Enter "LOOP".

I found Loop to be a MUCH simpler to program than Multitimer. But best of all, it plays nice, CLEAR AND LOUD sound effects through the Apple Watch! Until Loop, I never thought the watch capable of more than a couple pre-programmed noises. Not so! Combined with the ability to upload your own custom sounds, Loop is extremely personalizable.

More watch apps that rely on sound effects to get your attention need to have customizable sounds. Otherwise, they DON'T get your attention, because you hear the same thing all the time and subconsciously learn to ignore it.

At one point, I wrote the author to request the ability to stop a repeating final alarm by pressing one of the physical buttons on the phone (or watch), the same way you can silence incoming phone calls. He agreed that it sounded like a good idea, but cautioned me it might be a while before he had time to implement it. Lo and behold, barely one week passed before he posted a Loop update that included my request on top of several other handy enhancements! Kudos!

So if you're in the market for an easy-to-use interval timer that has GREAT Apple Watch functionality, this app's for you!

Excellent

So many features and exactly what I needed. The app looks great as well. And a one time fee for premium instead of subscription? Thank you!!

Had high hopes for this app... but it's a bit disappointing

Bought the Loop today and gave it a try. The UI looks clean and modern, but there are quite a few missing features.
The timers do not sync between the Desktop and the iPhone. You cannot reorder the timers in the list or the Loop panel. The Quick Timers can only share a single color. The Loop panel does not show the remaining time(s). This app has no Menu Bar icon.
Overall this app looks incomplete, but promising.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. In regards to your iCloud issue: Timers should sync between iPhone and Mac, make sure that iCloud sync is enabled on both devices and you are using the same Apple ID. For the menu bar: Loop 3.2 released today and provides a menu bar app. Hope you like the update. For the remaining time: I don’t really know what you mean with the Loop panel not showing the remaining time. Normally, the remaining time should be shown there. Maybe you can send me a screenshot of your issue at loop@leonboettger.com - Thanks 😊
