“Our rights” accompanies Cambodian garment worker Nary on her first days in the factory. Through conversations with her co-workers, she learns about her rights and obligations working in the factory and gets an introduction to occupational health and safety. Chapters can be read and listened to in English and Khmer.
The app “Our rights” has been developed by the project FABRIC which is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The objective of the app is to improve the knowledge of garment workers on their rights and obligations under the Cambodian labour law with a focus on the most important labour laws and occupational health and safety regulations in the workplace.
The app is based on the overall objective of GIZ FABRIC to improve sustainability of the Asian textile and garment sector. Many different parties need to be involved if conditions are to be successfully improved in textile and garment production. GIZ is working with representatives from states, the private sector and civil society to ensure that all actors take responsibility for shaping the desired economic growth in a sustainable way. As a regional project FABRIC is working in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Vietnam and together with China to build an industry that offers quality jobs, protects the environment and contributes to economic growth. Considering the global dimension of the industry, FABRIC brings together people from the Asian industry, public sectors, NGOs and from international buyers, promoting and facilitating knowledge sharing and cooperation and giving the opportunity to learn from innovative initiatives tackling sustainability issues.
