My fellow townspeople, due to popular demand, Meirion has added new markers to the ONYON pods for your convenience, which illustrate how easy oder difficult it is going to be for you to solve each and every ONYON; easier ONYONs carry only one marker, the toughest ones have no less than four of them!

A loose end has been spotted by our local police officer Ralf in the analyzer of Onyon No. 5, preventing the upper right spinner from doing anything at all … and it has already been fixed, too. Thank you, Ralf and everyone else, for always keeping your eyes open and letting us know if things do not work as they should! Meirion also did some polishing on the other puzzles, and as far as we know, the machine is finally running smoothly again.  So whoever has been affected by those hiccups – please accept our apologies!

Description of Strømhåll

My fellow townspeople, it's done: Meirion finally managed to deconstruct Onya Kruger's famous puzzle machine, move its segments from her workshop to the park and rebuild it at the lake pavilion.  So I could not be happier to announce that starting today, the "ONYON" will join the public attractions of our village, and every single one of you can take the chance to accept the challenge, solve the puzzles and unlock the secrets and mysteries that Onya may (or may not) have hidden inside – just as she had explicitly specified in her will. For those of you who never encountered an ONYON before, here is a short introduction to Onya Kruger’s notorious creation: an ONYON is a logical puzzle.  Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to correctly place a variety of circular puzzle chips called „tesserae“ into their correct target slots. To enable you to fulfill this task, you will be provided with a very limited, but absolutely sufficient number of visual clues; some of them speak for themselves, others might require a little more exploration and interpretation of yours in order to understand their message. Hence it is essential for you to watch really (!) closely, for some of these clues might contain much more information than you notice at first glance! For your convenience, the ONYON pods feature markers which illustrate how easy oder difficult it is going to be for you to solve each and every ONYON; easier ONYONs carry only one marker, the toughest ones have no less than four of them! And rest assured: there is only one right solution to every ONYON. There is one cordial request from Meirion, though, which he asked me to forward to all of you, and which I am urging you to respect: please refrain from besieging his workshop and pressing him for the solutions, because our mastermind of mechanic arts swore to me that he simply does not know them; first of all he had always far less indulged in solving puzzles rather than in constructing them, and second, while he had constructed the apparatus, it was our unforgettable "Queen of Logicals" Onya Kruger herself and alone who created and programmed the twenty-five ONYONs into it. As always, all proceedings from playing the „ONYON“ (minus a handling fee) will go to the artists involved, so make sure to support your local geniuses by buying in and spreading the word! Oh, and by the way: if you prefer to dip a TOE into the water first and try a couple of ONYONs before spending your bucks for the whole enterprise, there is another version around here that allows you to do so, too. My fellow townspeople, while most of us in our village continue to feel the weight of last year's events just as people certainly do all over the world, I am confident that brighter days are already en route to all of us. Thus I leave you today full of optimism, hope and joy; may Onya's legacy as well as Meirion's inexhaustible creativity and craftsmanship provide all of us with some highly entertaining and braintickling hours. Be seeing you! Jensen Q. Lemmyn, Mayor

  • Interesting, different and challenging

Updated to 5 stars because the developer is clearly on it and making changes when there are issues. It’s day 8 and I’m still really enjoying it.

I’m really enjoying these puzzles, never seen anything like it before. I usually get to a point that I think it’s impossible before clarity arrives. The game is making advent very enjoyable and I’m actively looking forward to the next days puzzle.

I really want to give this 5 stars unfortunately the game needs a little more testing. I think there is a problem with day six. I have three solutions which work and mark all the clues white but which aren’t accepted as completing the puzzle. This is further complicated by the fact that the clue marker for the bottom right is obscured by what I think is a bit of paper.

There is also a problem with day seven, two of the clues were being marked as wrong when I couldn’t see any other possible explanation for them. In the end I completed the whole puzzle as though I was right and even though they were still marked as wrong my solution was accepted as correct.

I would love to contact the developer for clarification because I really think this app has potential but I don’t think their website has been updated since before the app was released.

    Developer Response

Hello Blandname, thanks you so much for your nice feedback – I am so happy that you enjoy our ONYONs.  Unfortunately, though, you are right: there was a problem with Day 6. But it has been resolved already, and only minutes ago a new version has been released. So please make sure to update the app before giving Day 6 another try. All the best to you – and again thanks for taking the time to write a review! —— Updated on Dec 8th: Hello again, Blandname, actually there were far more Onyons broken than just No. 6 and 7 - and I am deeply sorry for that, because clearly it must have spoiled the joy of playing significantly for you. Other than that I have completely underestimated the task of creating such a project all on my own in a failsafe way, there is no excuse for that. I have revisited all Onyons one more time, and afaikt you should be good to go as soon as you have updated the app to 1.0.4. I hope the fun comes back! Best, Jens
  • Almost broke my iPad

It started to load, I heard a sizzle sound and then my screen had pixelated, went to black. Restarted, went back to app...played for a minute or two; another sizzle sound (like static on the radio) , pixel lines to black. Thought my iPad was broken/infected and couldn’t open it for a while - finally got back in, deleted game. Hope all is well - would like my 3$ back.

    Developer Response

Hello Pkaybrok, first of all: please accept my apology for this extremely late response, but I wasn't even aware that you had left a review. I am sorry that you had problems when you tried to start this game. The thing is, though: neither can I reproduce the phenomena you described, nor can anyone of our testers. Actually, nobody else reported even the slightest problem when running the app on whatever device was used, so chances are that whatever you observed was unrelated to this app altogether. And the fact that reviews from users in other countries are all in the 4 - 5 star range seem to confirm this assumption. But just to make sure: maybe you could let me know what iPad model and which iOS version you have been using, so I can investigate further. However, there indeed were some minor bugs in the game's logic which prevented the player from making it all through to the end, but these issues have been remedied long ago. We also added some new "mystery" to the game recently, so maybe I can encourage you to run an update of this app and give it another try … and let me know if the problem persists. Rest assured: nothing inside this app is able to damage your device … if there was, it wouldn't have been cleared by Apple for release.
  • Frustrating but fun

It’s only day 4, but I’m enjoying the app. Some of the clues are very hard to interpret (there are no words, only pictures). This part of the puzzle is more lateral thinking than logic. Once I’ve worked out what the clues mean then the logic part is fun. I don’t think it’s suitable for ages 4+ as it says though!

Another frustrating aspect of the puzzles is how long it takes to do anything (like mark your results), but it’s not so bad as to put me off. These are a completely new type of puzzle to me and really enjoyable.

I’d like to find more of these puzzles, but despite searching for various words from the description I can’t find any!

    Developer Response

Hey Kate, thank you so much for your response - it‘s an honor for me because you are the very first responder to my game from abroad. Yes, these puzzles are without a doubt far too hard for a 4+ year old child, but age recommendations are meant to protect kids from things like offensive language, violence and so on. I see your point, though — a note about this in the game’s description might be helpful. As of now, you will indeed not find puzzles like these in any other game anywhere else (as they are my original creation) … but in early 2021, you will — so stay in touch! ;-) Best, Jens
